The Boys Who Bulged the Net

He did. Most strikers do. He'd have got it back on if he'd been allowed the stay at Rangers.

He didn't achieve much after his departure but his confidence would have been shattered by the manner of his waygoing.

As I remember Forrest went off the boil.

As i remember right we were sitting at the top or second top when symon was sacked through the telephone. Forrest should never have been told at 23 years of age he was done cos we had a team that went off the boil for nine years, the embarrassed board made him, symon and big dandy the scapegoats for Berwick

I reckon if we hadn't shot Forrest (22) and McLean (23) we'd have won the CWC that year - easily..Celtic would never had got 2 never mind 9 in a row...we had a cracking team all round back then, lacking two young prolific goal-scorers.

McLean had 49 from 69.

4 months later Rangers played Bayern Munich in the CWC Final with defenders Roger Hynd and Dave Smith up front, losing 0-1 aet...Forrest's scoring record in European competition was excellent also - 6 (all in the European Cup in season 64/65) from 9 appearances (7 EC, 2 CWC)

Davie Smith alluded to that when he spoke at our dinner last year. Although he didn't say as much, it was fairly clear that he felt that we might have won the game with Jim Forrest playing.
