CammyF 8,406
Whilst this is an issue we have to address, racism is rife in gerneral society, so it can be expected to be displayed at football matches. Do we have more 'racists' in our support than any other club, I would doubt it. The majority of fans who participate in this 'idiotic salute' do so not because they are racist (I'd have more respect for them if they were, at least they would then have an 'opinion'), they do so as the feel that it is 'connecting' them to the Ulster Bears (who detest this salute) and / or it somehow makes them 'more British'. As Frankie and the RST said about losing TBB, it is about education not condemnation. We as a support have to start self-poilicing and eradicate this 'salute' once and for-all. However, as said above, the media are going to be on the look-out for this on Thursday and the idiots will give them more than enough ammuniation. Wonder if this below was reported in our unbiased press (two wrongs don't make a right - just showing up the press for what they are) Cammy F
ian1964 10,761
Some folk just don't give a fuck, but if we keep working together it will surely die out, hopefully.............................
bmck 117
i think its a simple matter of superiority - standing with your hand up singing rule britannia is simply more dramatic. far too much is made out of this.
Guest brother426
Cammy Racism is not 'rife' in general society...it aint the '70s and racist remarks can lose you your job...so i dont expect it at football matches either...calling someone a black/ p*ki/ whatever or making a straight arm salute with palm facing down should result in you being ejected with all that goes with it.

Guest brother426
maybe bmck thats a different debate...racist people displaying their racism or keeping it for remarks and asides when they think they are safe with people they trust because they know society will not stand for it...and who wants the stigma of being labelled a racist?

Gribz 919
Id say there is plenty of racism in society but most of it comes down to ignorance and uneducated morons not even knowing half the time. A classic case is that Jade Goody on BB, she thought she was being the hard person and her instinct was to use a racist type comment without even thinking. It wasnt until she was confronted on national TV after it that she realised. IMO a lot of those who do the salute during RB and GSTQ are doing the same - they dont even think about it but they do it coz the next guy does it. If the guy next to them started singing "my grannie is a porn star" they would probably join in.
CammyF 8,406
Unfortunately Brother, racism is RIFE in Scotland at the moment. We are a very racist country, we see racism spray-painted on all most every Chinese carry out shop, Pakistani shop, Jewish graves and lest not forget the anti-English racism that gets laughed off as being a 'true scot'. Cammy F Where I live there's about 12 Pakistani corner shops, Chinese restaurants and takeaways and Indian restaurants and not one has any racist remarks spray-painted on their walls. I don't know where any Jewish graves are so I can't comment on that one. Of course I'm not saying that grafitti on these places doesn't happen but to say that "all most" every shop mentioned has it is a bit OTT. The English are just as bad at being anti-Scottish.
