Dunfermline sign former Rangers midfielder Rhys McCabe

Recommended Posts

Dunfermline boss Allan Johnston has bolstered his squad ahead of tomorrow’s league game at Stenhousemuir with the addition of former Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Rhys McCabe.

The 23-year-old left the Owls at the end of last season and had trial spells with St Johnstone and Hibs before turning out for the Pars development side earlier this month.

McCabe, who has been capped at Scotland Under-21 level, has now signed a deal with Dunfermline.

SDM once said very few players, (especially young players) have ever left Rangers and bettered themselves, McCabe is one of many who should never have left; he should be an example to today's youngsters.

That said he's had a lot of injuries and has only played 40 games in the past 3 seasons; he's young and talented enough to turn his career around if he can stay fit and healthy.

Bit unfair, he has played in a winning team v Celtic.

He was man of the match in that game, and deservedly so. Interesting to see how he develops. I can only imagine he has had bad injury problems because he should be doing a lot better than Dunfermline. The Scottish leagues are easy though, if he gets anywhere back to the level he was at, he can still flourish.

Hope our current youth don't all end up at Dunfermline.

This would be the danger of over-reliance on a youth set-up to provide first team players.

It's only when they step out of their own age group they can really be assessed as to what level they might play at.

The vast majority won't be able to reach the standard we'd like them to get to.

This is where a proper scouting set up comes in. Do we have one in place yet?
