RANGERS are today celebrating an awards double with manager Mark Warburton picking up Championship Manager of the Month and James Tavernier being named Player of the Month.

Warburton has enjoyed a perfect start to his career as Gers boss with ten wins from ten matches including six wins from six in the Ladbrokes Championship this season already.

The new manager has already written his name into the record books by surpassing Bill Struth's record of nine wins in a row at the start of his tenure in 1920.

The Light Blues sit at the top of the Championship ahead of Falkirk by five points and have currently scored 38 goals by 11 different scorers. Up next for the Gers is a trip to Dumbarton at the weekend, sharply followed by League Cup duty at Ibrox against St Johnstone - CLICK TO BUY TICKETS.

Summer recruit Tavernier who has been named as the Player of the Month has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season from right back - scoring a fantastic 6 goals from 10 appearances in a blue jersey.

Tavernier scored the first competitive goal of the new season and the new regime of Warburton and Weir with a delightful curled free kick against Hibernian at Easter Road in the Challenge Cup.

We'll have reaction from both the manager and Tavernier across rangers.co.uk and RangersTV this afternoon.

Warburton has done very well so far but it's ludicrous to compare his record in the second division with Struth whose 1920-21 side went 23 first division league games unbeaten until Jan 1, 1921; when they suffered their only top flight loss of the season at home to Celtic.

It's a pointless comparison. Equally you could say (if you were hard of thinking that is) that Bill Struth was up against the likes of Albion Rovers, Airdie, Morton,Dumbarton, Clydebank, Queens Park, Hamilton Accies.................

If Mark Warburton is still here in 10 years then you can compare !

It is just a wee stat and nothing to be too worked up over. Nobody is comparing Warburton to Struth. It is like saying who is top of the table after 2 games, completely irrelevant but it is still a stat. The game is becoming increasingly Americanised with multiple stats for everything. Let us see how long the winning run goes first, and ultimately what it leads to with what we end up winning at the end of the season before we jump to any comparisons with other managers.

If McCoist/Smith/McLeish had won his first 15 games in his first season would it have made him a better manager than Struth? Only trophies are a proper barometer. Unfortunately Warburton cannot win his first 10 top flight games in his first season as that is not where we are, that doesn't automatically make him incomparable with other Rangers managers as a bit of fun and a news item to fill the endless hours of media interest.
