Germinal 27
Back in the day, football magazines would occasionally need a filler and the Shrewsbury Town story would be pulled out the drawer. Shrewsbury's ground, Gay Meadow sits on a bend on the River Servern and has endured a frugal existence. They employed a chap in a coracle on a peppercorn fee to retrieve every ball cleared into the river. Maybe Dearest Ian has been given a wicker meshed flotation and a paddle, I would bet on it? I would have bet good money that that was Notts County. The memory is going, right enough.
ranger_syntax 4,422
Probably a level up from the Scottish Championship....yet not under Warburtons Rangers. A poser who has rightly left the club. Fair play for sticking around when we needed players but betting against us??? Well, he was getting paid a wage . . .

26th of foot 6,114
The New Meadow is not by the river anymore. The new ground has the railway for company next to it. Ah, I am filled with immense well being at the mental imagery of Black in a coracle, paddle in hand, on a railway line, with an express hurtling towards him.

I wonder if he would bet against himself making it.
Ser Barristan Selmy 222
Of more interest is that Rhys McCabe also featured as a trialist for Shrewsbury in the same reserve match Black did. When he broke into our side he looked like he could achieve great things, just goes to show you. Scott Allan played for Portsmouth and Milton Keynes Dons in the same league and look at him now. Young Scots fail in England time and time again. I bet if he came back to Scotland he would suddenly stand out again and end up at one of the old firm.
Frankie 8,652
McCabe had trials at Hibs and St Johnstone as well but couldn't get a deal.
