THE Dutch giants say they were given the advice as they prepared to mount their defence to a UEFA charge after their fans unveiled an offensive banner.

THE Scottish FA has denied claims it told Dutch giants Ajax that sectarian terms such as ‘******’ and ‘Orange’ were just part of the game here.

The Amsterdam club said Hampden chiefs told them some supporters viewed the terms as a “badge of honour”.

The claims emerged as Europe’s governing football body UEFA released its report into proceedings against Ajax over an offensive banner.

Ajax were fined £25,000 after fans unfurled a banner branding Celtic supporters as “****** b*****ds” during a game in 2013.

UEFA’s report claims Ajax, when preparing its defence, had been told by the SFA’s disciplinary services manager that half the Celtic support used the word “as a badge of honour while the other half might consider it unpleasant”.

UEFA added that the SFA had been “reckless” in its advice given to Ajax.

But Hampden bosses have denied making the claim after being approached by the Dutch club as it tried to fend off the UEFA charge.

A spokeswoman said: “The club was advised, in writing, that we would not provide any such statement.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Scottish FA did not present the information outlined in the submissions and we are seeking clarification on this matter from UEFA.”

A senior source also told the Record that the SFA is “not happy,” adding: “We are flabbergasted that this kind of thing would appear unsubstantiated as evidence in an official disciplinary inquiry.”
