SHARON MAXWELL was five times over the legal limit when she was stopped by police in Paisley. The Celtic fan claims she had an affair with Nacho Novo when he played for Rangers.

Sharon Maxwell admitted drink driving in court

A WANNABE WAG who claims she had an affair with former Rangers star Nacho Novo just months before he tied the knot has admitted drink driving.

Celtic fan Sharon Maxwell, 31, says she had a steamy tryst with the Spaniard weeks before he got hitched to long-term partner Donna Clark in February.

The former lingerie model claimed Novo bombarded her with saucy texts begging for “some action”.

And she said they later met in a car park for a romantic rendezvous – only to be disturbed by a dog walker.

The mum of one is facing a driving ban and fine after her appearance at Paisley Sheriff Court earlier.

Just as her trial was about to start, she pleaded guilty to drink driving. She admitted being almost five times over the limit while driving in Paisley’s Mill Street on February 22.

Her breath reading was 104 – the legal limit is 22.

Maxwell, of Beith, Ayrshire, also admitted running a red light. Sheriff Colin Pettigrew adjourned the case until next month.

At a pre-trial hearing last week, the court was told Maxwell’s legal team were trying to get hold of her medical records.

Defence lawyer Amy Spencer said they believed the 31-year-old was on medication at the time which may have explained her being over the alcohol limit.

Maxwell, a property developer, was fined £400 and banned from the road for 18 months in 2010 for drink driving.

The Celtic fan claimed she met Novo, 36 – who now plays for Carolina RailHawks in the US – in Strathclyde Park in November after the pair spent days swapping raunchy texts.

But she said their tryst was interrupted by a dog walker with his Jack Russell.

Novo’s wife Donna, 37, later rubbished Maxwell’s claims of an affair but said his guilt over the texts he’d sent sparked their whirlwind wedding.

Donna said: “This was absolutely a turning point for us. I knew all about it, we were on a break when he sent the messages and I went on to marry him in February.”

The couple, who have been together for 11 years, wed at One Devonshire Gardens in front of friends and family with Novo’s ex-Rangers teammate Marvin Andrews as pastor. They have a son Javier, five, and Donna has two teenage sons.

Novo, who also played for Morton and Carlisle United, scored 25 goals and won a league and League Cup double in his first season at Ibrox. He also won a league and Scottish Cup double – netting the winner in the final – in 2009.

What a slut using her conviction to try and run up some publicity. Typical Celtic supporter throw flack on Rangers to disguise her own bad behaviour. I know I shouldn't give her the forum space but it just shows they are really finding it difficult to drum up negative stories against Rangers under Warburton that they are reverting to this. I will virtually Guarantee that this was parked in the Record data bank waiting for a time in need.

Don't see the need to call her a slut but aside from that, she's most likely selling the story to pay the court fine. Whatever the situation, it's not like footballers ever do stupid things but it's between Novo & his missus.
