Darren McGregor joins Hibs - also Zaliukas released

I'm gutted for the big man, but if he wasn't going to get a game then fair enough. He wasn't great with the ball at his feat, so isn't really W&W material. Good servant last year, but at 30 he needs to be playing. I get the sense that he wasn't trying to take a wage for nothing. He'll get a half-decent Premiership club.

Would be very interested to see our wage bill after all the summers ins and outs. I have no idea if it's + or - on last year

Hmm...

Depends on the % we were paying the Newcastle guys wages which is still to come out. Ashley still has nondisclosure on that sadly. Also the % we are paying Arsenal and Spurs.

Based on what info there is and FM (laugh but they try to source it too)...I'd think we are paying less this season by a fair bit. Waghorn's Wigan wage was less than Boyd for example and Jig cost more than Tavernier's and Kiernan's Wigan wage combined. Holt and Halliday were on relative peanuts.

Credit to Warburton...not only has he signed players cheaply on transfer fees but none were earning much in wages either. That's the "value" and "youth" he keeps talking about.

Surely he should have been kept for cover. To be fair maybe Warburton has said he wouldn't get in and tried to do him a favour. He likes a lean squad apparently we keep hearing

I don't think Warburton was ever going to play him much...he needs defenders with ball skills to play his system.

He also likes developing youngsters...30 yrs old was a no go for him.

Shows a greater respect to let him go.

I don't get it

he was one of our better players last season

with a weak central defence, Keirnan still to show he's got what it takes and Eustace looking he may not achieve the fitness level we require, and the new guy Bolt or is it Ball still to prove himself

you'd think paying off his contract will save us zilch on wages

bit puzzled by this

Surprised he wasn't kept for cover in the case of injuries or loss of form by Wilson or Kiernan but presume Warburton thinks Ball will be sufficient backup. In addition, he did not meet the managers profile of young ball player and therefore where is his added value.

We need to realise too that none of the SPL journeymen McCoist signed on exorbitant salaries who are now entering the final year of their contracts will get offered new contracts.

Darren McGregor was one of them.

That's actually a very good point. The last thing we need is another season where a dozen players practically down tools because they've got very little chance of a new contract.
