Alan Stubbs: Mark Warburton's got a very EASY job at Rangers

EASTER ROAD gaffer not surprised by Ibrox side's strong start but is convinced his side team have plenty to offer in race for the league title.

ALAN STUBBS tonight insisted Mark Warburton has had a “very easy” job transforming Rangers.

The Easter Road boss cranked up the heat between Hibs and Rangers ahead of Sunday's Championship crunch in Glasgow.

Warburton has won early-season acclaim for the style of football he has adopted at Ibrox and the flood of goals which have been their trademark in the opening four wins in competitive matches.

Stubbs’ team were on the receiving end in the opening game in the Petrofac Cup when Rangers scored six against Hibs.

However, the Leith gaffer admits he is not surprised that Warburton has turned around the fortunes of Rangers after claiming it is “very easy” to build a stronger squad when you have money to spend.

The Leith side travel to Ibrox for Sunday’s eagerly-awaited Championship clash between two teams that hope to be in contention for the title at the end of the season.

There is no love lost between the two sides after Hibs rejected three unwelcome bids for midfielder Scott Allan, who moved to Celtic last week.

And Stubbs, who has seen Warburton recruit the likes of former Wigan trio Martyn Waghorn, James Tavernier and Rob Kiernan and ex-Hearts captain Danny Wilson, admits Rangers are now a better side due to the money they’ve spent.

He said: “It’s very easy when you’ve got money to spend to bring in much better players than what was there at the start.

“Rangers have started the season strongly, they’ve started well.

“When you buy good players, which they’ve obviously brought in, sometimes it does not necessarily take a long a time (to gel).

“Compared to where they are last season to now, it is a transformation of the squad but they’ve spent a lot of money as well.

“Their start to the season has been very strong, there is no denying that and we’ve seen from their second half performance against us that when things go their way, they can be a dangerous team.

“But for the first 45 minutes, if anyone looks at the game, we showed we can be a dangerous team as well.

“I think the most important thing is that we perform and play to the best of our abilities. If we do that then we know we’re capable of getting a result.”

Hibs got off to the worst possible start in the league after being beaten at Dumbarton on the opening day but Stubbs’ side collected their first win against Morton at the weekend.

The former Celtic defender is now hoping his team can build momentum by inflicting Warburton’s first set-back as Rangers manager.

Speaking to Hibs TV, he added: “As long as we’re picking up results that’s the most important thing, it’s going to be a long season.

“We want to be as consistent as possible, there will be times when we’re in a rich vein of form and there will be times when we need to roll our sleeves up because that’s what champions do.

“That’s what we will have to encounter as the season goes on.”

Rebuilding an entire footballing structure which was in a mass state of mess and then locating and putting together 9 new players and moulding them playing well is easy???

Well then again Warburton is magic :)

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has hit back at Hibernian boss Alan Stubbs for suggesting that he had an easy job at Ibrox.

Warburton was speaking after his side progressed in the Petrofac Cup with a 2-0 win at Ayr but responded to comments made by Stubbs earlier in the day.

Stubbs told Hibs TV: "It's very easy when you've got money to spend to bring in much better players than what was there at the start."

The Rangers manager, who has seen his side win all five competitive matches this season, said: "Clearly it must be easy managing Real Madrid and Man United then, I guess.”

He then suggested Stubbs was wide of the mark with his comments and that Stubbs shouldn’t concern himself with business at Ibrox.

"I would suggest that any manager without the facts keeps his mouth shut and concentrates on his club and not worry about our club,” he said. ”That's the key point.

"Right now we are very respectful to every other club and manager, and unless you know any facts that I don't know, concentrate on your own team.

"I know what we have spent and that's a complete fallacy."

Rangers play host to Hibs on Saturday at Ibrox but Warburton laughed off any suggestion of ‘mind games’.

"I'm not the brightest man in the world but it will take a lot more than that to wind me up,” he said.

I'd rather MW ignored Stubbs but don't blame him for reacting to what are daft comments. He should have let the team do our talking on Sunday.

With our budget, managing Rangers should be an easy job but as the last three managers have shown, that's not always the case depending on certain circumstances.

It would actually be very interesting to see some (Official) cost comparisons between the 2 clubs.

We have brought in a lot of new players, but at what cost??? Have we actually paid a transfer fee for ANY of them??? Then it comes down to wages. RFC is a considerably bigger club than Hibs, therefore they bring in considerably more revenue & can afford to pay higher wages - is that "unfair"????

Nobody could say that MW has gone out on a massive spending spree.....what he has done it signed wisely. He has brought in young, hungry players, who are most likely on VERY reasonable wages & turned them into a good team.

Nothing but sour grapes & mind games from Stubbs.
