Halliday - We Need to Get the Finger Out

HALLIDAY says Rangers must improve after being given the run-around by Hibs for the first 30 minutes in Saturday's cup clash - even though Gers ran out 6-2 winners.

RANGERS midfielder Andy Halliday insists Saturday’s 6-2 thrashing of Hibs does not mean the Ibrox men are favourites for the Championship title.

Mark Warburton’s side ran riot at Easter Road in the first round of the Petrofac Training Cup and are back in action on Sunday in the League Cup against Peterhead.

Despite the scoreline it was not all plain sailing for new manager Warburton as Hibs were leading until James Tavernier’s 39th-minute equaliser.

The battle for the solitary automatic promotion place is expected to be a two-horse race between Rangers and Hibs but Halliday, who scored a dream debut goal at the weekend, has refused to read anything into the result.

The former Livingston, Middlesbrough and Bradford ace said: “Does this lay down a marker? Not really because they were the better team for the first half hour.

“If anything they laid a marker down to us in the first half hour for us to get the finger out and start dominating the game. Thankfully that’s what we did.

“The first half hour was nowhere good enough for us, Hibs dominated and played really well.

“We got a kick up the backside at half-time, we came out and did what we’ve shown in training and friendlies.”
