MARK WOTTE has left the door open for further talks with Rangers after a meeting with Ibrox director Paul Murray.

The Dutchman spoke with the then Light Blues chairman last month as the new Gers board bid to transform the club on and off the park.

Rangers have moved away from the idea of having a Director of Football in place as they set their sights on the Championship title this term and look to build towards a Premiership challenge as soon as possible.

And former SFA youth chief Wotte would be happy to play his part if the Gers ever came calling in the future.

He said: "Having been a Head Coach at the highest level, Performance Director, Academy Director and a Director of Football over the years I have obtained a good idea about how to run a club. That's probably why Paul Murray met with me.

"He was interested in my more or less 'out-of-the-box' opinions on the best philosophies to use in order for a club like Rangers to move forward at all levels. And I thanked him for the invitation.

"It was a very pleasant meeting, and we had a good conversation.

"Paul Murray impressed me. But I would prefer the rest of the contents of it remain private. That is only fair to all concerned.

"I think it is important for clubs to have a Director of Football or Technical Director - call it what you will - because such a role is vital in the modern game for a variety of reasons.

"Apart from anything else, it is not a cost to the club because it ensures returns on investments on the pitch.

"I'm not fully aware of what the situation is now with Rangers, but if they want to meet with me again, I'll be more than happy because Rangers is still a huge club.

"There is a clear determination and willingness to move the club forward."

So Paul Murray met with him but Dave King has no idea who he is ....................

That aside I always like the way he talks about the game.

I would assume King said that to ward off any more questions on the topic. Same with his statement that all 4 or 5 candidates for the job are still being evaluated. That said, being in the RSA and having not even seen that many Rangers games may actually tell its own story about King being on the pulse of Scottish football affairs beyond Rangers.

Telling blatant lies isn't the way we should be conducting our business, I would have thought we might have learned from past mistakes.

Murray is acting CEO just now and King is doing very little, as was always going to be the case. For Murray to have a meeting with Wotte is just good business sense, and there is absolutely no need for him to report back to King on every meeting he has with football people. The football side is not King's remit anyway.

As one that doesn't have a lot of time for Murray, I am glad we are hearing back reports that he is doing some good background work with qualified people in order to see where things can be improved.
