Maybe they were mistaken yesterday, but if Ireland is level on points with Scotland, it will be Scotland progressing since they won and drew with thei Irish. Well, that at least was the reasoning from the German commentator of the game and hence he reckoned it to be a good result for the Scots. I would have assumed that it is points and goals scored, but when it comes to UEFA (and FIFA) these days, assumptions might go straight out of the window.

I think head-to-head comes before goal difference in this competition, so given that we got a win and a draw against the ROI they'll need to finish with more points than us to be above us.

Away to Georgia next becomes absolutely a must win cup final. Ireland are playing Gibraltar next so that's them on 12 points and if Scotland don't win in Georgia then Ireland would be either level or above us.

 

Poland play Germany next so something has to give there meaning 3 points in Tbilisi would put the top 2 finish in our own hands as we have Germany and Poland at home after that.

 

To get a top 2 finish we need:

Georgia away 3 pts

Germany home 1 pts / possibly can afford a defeat depending on other results.

Poland home 3 pts

Gibraltar away 3 pts.

 

It might suit us best if Poland & Germany draw in their next game. Georgia away will be a tricky game for us because they're not a bad team at all. Taking 3 points off Poland will be very difficult.
