ian1964 10,826 Posted June 3, 2015 Share Posted June 3, 2015 A Dumfries football fan has been jailed for fifty days after shouting a sectarian remark at last month’s match between Queen of the South and Rangers at Palmerston. 29-year-old Darren Scott admitted expressing hatred towards a religious group, and had been remanded in custody since appearing at Dumfries Sheriff Court on the 11th of May, two days after the match. It was stated that a flare had been let off and had landed near Scott and police in the area heard him shouting his comment. SteveC 150 Posted June 3, 2015 Share Posted June 3, 2015 (edited) His appalling record includes selling heroin tainted with anthrax (he claimed to be unaware of the anthrax) to help pay off debts he had accrued by obtaining cocaine but not paying for it. I think that ever so slightly will have influenced the Sheriff. However, I don't like that any football fan can be jailed for shouting at a football match. He belted religious hatred and a) I doubt that this is a common occurance amongst large sections of fans (bar the Hooped Horrors) who in turn would turn away from the game if they aren't allowed to do this, and b) that he should get away with that.
