New management team: Mark Warburton and David Weir

Recommended Posts

Pereira would be the type of appointment better suited if we were in the top division and competing in Europe.

Next season the manager has two main aims:-

1) promotion. 2) win the SC to get into the EL

I stand by my belief that Warburton would be a better apointment to achieve these

Agree but the task should be more of a 5 stage appointment looking longer than the 2 points you mentioned.

Im certainly in the Warburton and Weir camp. The preparation and note to detail they seemed to have put in is exactly what the footballing side of our club needs and has needed. There is no 'rebel camp' like Ferguson and Boyd to refuse longer training and new methods and its a superb chance to build for the future.

I like the Weir appointment because he will be on the training pitch, I don't think Weir is a No.1 but will make a excellent coach and assistant. He is the type of ex Ger that is needed, someone around the place who knows what is needed on the pitch from players rather than the jobs for boys type ex player. That's why others such as Numan and Laudrup often get mentioned that they would do a great job on the coaching side because they came from the outside but know what is required professionally, Weir is in that bracket - a proper professional.

Im hoping they get appointed this week, however if Pereira was the surprise appointment I wouldn't be disappointed but if its any of the names that have been mentioned like McCall, Davies, McInnes or Mcleish then Id expect a really rough ride over the next 3 years.

David Weir was a Hearts man turned Everton man turned Rangers man made defenders around him into Supermen.

I don't know why that qualifies him for a top job at Ibrox. I really don't. What's his record on retirement that compares to McCall?

I disagree. Ticket sales rocketed on plg appointment

I'm confident that the board today will not to throw that one at us again. An impressive blunder which backfired in massive proportions. McCall for me regardless of media speculation and shit stirring.

He wouldn't be top job though. Anyone can clearly see the professionalism in him though.

It doesn't always work bringing a good ex player, look at mcleish, he was a top centre half but didn't do wonders with our defence and Ally was a top striker who didn't improve our forwards but in Weirs last season he was almost a mentor anyway so I think that will work.

I have made my point clear I am not into the Warburton Weir thing as I see 2 Newbies to the management game. That is not what we need at this moment. We need an experienced manager who has a knack of bringing players on through the youth. No matter who comes in a managers role is always a gamble and never a guarantee that he can turn things around.

How long did he last and what kind of players did he bring us? I think the only one that was good and lasted was Papac.

No matter which way you set up your stall we need good players.

To be fair Arteta went on to be a better player than he was with us.

Report: Rangers 'hold talks' over appointing highly-rated Ian Cathro as manager

Rangers have reportedly held talks with Valencia coach Ian Cathro over becoming their new manager.

According to The Sun, Rangers have held talks with Valencia coach Ian Cathro this week over becoming the new manager at Ibrox.

Rangers lost 6-1 on aggregate to Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership play-off final last month, meaning they must now spend at least one more season in the Scottish Championship.

Manager Stuart McCall could now lose his job - despite only arriving in March. The 50-year-old was only handed a contract until the end of the season, with Rangers hoping he would win them promotion through the play-offs.

Having failed, McCall now faces the possibility of being replaced, with a host of managers now linked with the job - and The Sun believe talks have already been held with Valencia coach Cathro over becoming the new manager at Ibrox this summer.

Cathro, 28, has a remarkable back story which has seen him rise as a coach at such a young age, and is now assisting Portuguese manager Nuno at Valencia having worked together previously at Rio Ave.

Cathro is only young but will no doubt fancy managing on his own at some stage - and Rangers want that to be immediately having allegedly opened negotiations with Cathro this week.

Given Cathro's youth in terms of coaching, some may see this move as a shock but the former Dundee United coach has such a growing reputation that Rangers may think they can land their manager for now and the future by hiring Cathro.

Getting a good experienced manager wont be easy at the moment though. I don't see Warburton as a newbie, he has had 3 great years in England. That Championship division is as tough as it gets, you play Saturday / Tuesday almost every week and there is some good teams with good players there, a lot of Premier League teams put their promising youngsters there and for Warburton to take Brentford who are a small club to the top 5 is a job extremely well done.
