Ally McCoist deserves credit if Rangers are promoted

Ex-Rangers player Andy Little thinks Ally McCoist deserves a share of the credit if Rangers are promoted back to the Scottish Premiership.

Ex-Rangers man Andy Little has insisted that Ally McCoist deserves his portion of the credit for Rangers’ current success, as reported by the Glasgow Evening Times.

Little thinks that McCoist held the club together through harder times and whilst it may have been right to let him go in the end it should be remember that he played a part in taking them back towards the Scottish Premiership.

The now Preston player has just been promoted to the Championship after his side's emphatic win at Wembley but spent seven years at Rangers competing at the highest and lowest ends of Scottish football.

He plans to return to Glasgow to watch the team he refers to as ‘us’ compete in the play-offs with the hope of having another promotion party come Sunday when Rangers could return to Scotland’s top flight.

Speaking about McCoist’s time in charge, Little was insistent that he deserves credit for doing such a good job in very difficult circumstances when bringing Rangers back up the leagues.

"The gaffer, as I call him, did a great job. When he came in he kept the team together, kept the club together in far worse times than they have had lately.

"He deserves credit for that.

"Unfortunately, the results and performances weren't as good as he would have liked, so maybe it was understandable something had to change.

"He did a very good job of keeping the club together when I don't think any man could have done as well as him.”

So what he said was that Ally deserves credit for keeping the club together, and that has somehow translated into a headline of "Ally McCoist deserves credit if Rangers are promoted."

What Little is actually quoted as saying is not that unreasonable if he was approached by a journalist looking for some Ally bashing. Little was fairly non-descript in his comments and it's just a journalist who have turned it into a story.

Was going to post the same as what Bluedell's just posted. It's just another misleading, sensationalist headline trying to twist someone's words into something they weren't intended to mean at all.

I don't see how McCoist held the club together. All he has done is bring us down with his useless signings, atrocious football and insane wages. We are broke and he's still the highest or second highest earner at the club despite leaving almost 6 months ago.

Having incompetents taking millions out of the club is what almost destroyed us, not what kept us together.

That may be true but there's no point in an ex-player coming out and saying it and causing a distraction in this important week. Best to give an inconsequential answer, which is what he did. Credit to Little for the way he handled it.
