JACK Thomson, Scott Gray, Jordan Houston, Kieran Wright, Aidan Wilson, Sam Jamieson and Jamie Barjonas have all signed Professional Youth contracts at the Club.

The group of under-15 and under-16 players were all contracted by the club recently and will start their professional careers this summer. That will mean wholesale changes to their everyday lives as they go in pursuit of a Rangers first-team jersey.

The seven teenagers are all schoolboys at the moment and whilst their education will still be a priority, they will be leaving day-to-day lessons behind to go begin their full-time football schooling.

With the Rangers Academy now under the control of Craig Mulholland, there have been numerous changes in terms of style of play and philosophy and their experience may vary slightly from previously.

But one simple principle remains – these boys are being prepped and readied for a career as Gers stars in the top flight. Mulholland explained how their lives will change this summer.

He said: “At the moment their day consists of going to school in the mornings and afternoons and then they rush into Murray Park on a bus in the evenings.

“They train from 6pm-8pm and sometimes they are getting home at 9pm or 10pm at night and having to start thinking about homework.

“Their week will change from the start of the new season in that they’ll be in all day on Mondays and Tuesdays for double sessions.

“They will still do education on Wednesdays, then on Thursdays they’re back in for a double session and Friday mornings will be preparing for a game at the weekend.

“At night time it will start to become about resting and recovery, whereas at the moment they are probably working 12 hour days.

“It will be completely different for them and initially the fulltime environment will be a bit of a shock to their system with the amount of training they do and the demands that get put on them.

“But gradually they will settle into that and hopefully they can kick on into the Under-20s squad from there.

“Players who know the philosophy are likely to flow better into the first team than those who come to the club at the same age from elsewhere.

“There have been a lot of demands for these boys from other clubs so from our point of view to get them tied down at Rangers is a real positive.”

RANGERS signed Jack Thomson, Scott Gray, Jordan Houston, Kieran Wright, Aidan Wilson, Sam Jamieson and Jamie Barjonas and here Craig Mulholland gives an overview of each player.

Jack Thomson

Mulholland said: “Of the seven boys Jack has played the most in our under-17 team this season so he is playing two years up from his age group.

"He is also playing in the Scotland international squad at under-16 level so he is playing up a level for his country too. He can play centre-back or centre midfield and he is one we have really high hopes for.”

Jordan Houston

Mulholland said: “Jordan can play in a variety of positions, right-back or wide right or off the front-man and he is a lad that has been with us since the age of 8 or 9-years-old.

"We are finding more and more that the ones who are getting contracts and making the first team are the ones that have been with us since very young and have come through the academy. They have been engrained in the philosophy here and they are the ones who tend to make it all the way through.”

Scott Gray

Mulholland said: “Scott is a left back and plays in our Under-15s group. He is a big Rangers supporter so signing a professional contract at Ibrox was a huge thing for him and he is another one with super potential.”

Kieran Wright

Mulholland said: “Kieran is an under-15 and is a Scotland Under-16 international goalkeeper. Jim Stewart does a superb job with our goalkeepers. We have Scotland keepers at under-16s, 17s, 18s and 19s so hopefully Kieran will follow in their footsteps and, like Allan McGregor before him, he will kick on.”

Aidan Wilson

Mulholland said: “Aidan can play in a couple of positions, right-back and centre-back, and he has been with us from a young age. He is another one who has been with the international squads so all the boys are showing a lot of potential.”

Sam Jamieson

Mulholland said: “Sam is a striker and a goal scorer and his best moment at the club so far was probably at the Milk Cup at the start of the season when he scored a couple of goals against Liverpool. Again he is a Scotland international player and another one we have high hopes for.”

Jamie Barjonas

Mulholland said: “Jamie is a midfielder and can play in a forward midfield role or a slightly deeper midfield role. He is an excellent passer of the ball and has been representing Scotland at under-15 and under-16 levels.”

Lets hope me get a manager who sees potential in them and has the balls to give them a chance.

Only if they prove they are good enough. It needs to be understood that not every youngster we get will make it. The vast majority won't. That's the way it always has been & always will be unfortunately

Well done lads. These days we really need some young ones to come through the grade and go on to be first teamers long term. That's why we need to get the right manager appointment with right coaching team.

There will be a few regrettable hairdo's in there in the years to come :D
