Alistair McCoist MBE

'In our darkest hour Ally McCoist showed loyalty'. LOL

Where else could he have gone & got the exorbitant salary Rangers were paying him? Who else would be so daft?

He was useless as a manager & got found out.

Earning almost double some English Premiership manager salaries to coach a team in the fourth division in Scotland :awesome:.

Still on the wage months after leaving. He has taken the piss more than anyone.

I know this is supposed to elicit some kind of sympathy for Gordy but it doesn't half epitomise first world problems... Doesn't mean Ally shouldn't stop taking a wage but PS4 etc, come on...

I think some of the hatred towards McCoist is out of order, Id like to know how many fans would refuse the salary being in his position. Im pretty sure there is a lot of facts that haven't been revealed. His salary was stupid in the beginning and being put on 12 months garden leave was another bad move. Questions to have to asked about him also but unless a fly on the wall reveals everything then I wouldn't get personnel towards Ally.

Nobody can deny he will go down as the worst manager we've had, I thought I saw some terrible tactical decisions from Alex McLeish but Ally took it to a new level. He was stubborn and kept this jobs for boys mentality which effected the club and teams performances. In another industry he should have been let go straight away but he has written contracts so the club cant around that.

You are not alone in suggesting perhaps that article should have been "put on hold" until Ally's version of events had been heard. If Im honest though, I'm honestly struggling to see what parts of the jigsaw are missing for people.

As had been alluded to already throughout this thread, what is the smoking gun which is going to justify such exhorbitant excess at our club ? Gunslinger spoke about the honouring of the contract - Id say its part of the financial malaise at our club that we are still negotiating the kind of contracts which were so harmful during Walter's final season during his 1st stint.

Furthermore Frankie made a critical point several months ago - the issue of consistency. While others were being tarred as "****s" for their conduct over the penny shares we convienently turned something of a blind eye in terms of criticism of Ally. I'm genuiney struggling to understand where the demarcation line is for this type of conduct.

In terms of the article much of the focus and discussion has centred around McCoist - but it was intended to be more wide reaching hence why I mentioned "others" and also the 3 bullet points which I included to demonstrate the need for change was more far reaching than just the ex-manager's wage.

The culture of excess at our club continues to impede and restrict its ability to get back to its rightful place.

Just on the money aspect Ally McCoist is already a rich man he surely can't need the money

It is possible he took the shares so he could use them against the board as he has done twice already. It could have been a tactical ploy. He has gives the Rangers his proxy when needed. Maybe he will give them to a good cause one day. We don't know.

I am not an Ally lover but I do think he deserves the chance to explain himself.

I agree his contract was a shambles but I ask is that Ally's fault? We all try to launder the best deal for ourselves.

As I said before I think Ally is hurting and feels let down.

I know Ally is a man but I feel the saying is adaptable in this case "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned".

McCoist's managerial tenure was undoubtedly a failure; nothing more, nothing less. He shouldn't be criticised for it; he was doing what he thought was best. It just so happened to be a failure. Moreover, it shouldn't overshadow what he did as a player.

There is a tension between what we want to believe about McCoist and his actions. We want to believe McCoist is a Rangers man. A Rangers man wouldn't take a salary; McCoist is taking a Salary, so McCoist can't be a Rangers man. I don't think we can reconcile those two issues. We want to see things as 'black and white': he's either a Rangers man and so wouldn't take his salary, or not a Rangers man and will take his salary; Angel or Devil.

However, perhaps he's both? Perhaps he is a Rangers man, but also feels entitled to his salary; legally, he is entitled to it. I would like to echo the sentiments of others: we should wait for his side of the story before criticising, no matter how it looks. It's not a 'black and white' situation, no matter how much we think it is. No fan has ever been in that position.

Was Ally supposed to decline the offer of penny shares when Green was handing them out to anyone with a swinging dick and a few grand in their pocket?

Charles Green gave himself 5 million shares for nothing other than being a patter merchant with a big mouth which emitted bullshit & lies.

Green's cronies Imran Ahmad & Richard Hughes got almost another 5 million shares between them plus Hughes made something like half a million quid in interest on the short term loan he provided.

Another point worth making here regarding Ally's shares is that as far as we know Ally still has those shares because he hasn't sold them to make a fast buck, unlike Green, Ahmad & Hughes who all cashed their shares in so that they could line their pockets.

Yes, Ally has made a lot of cash from his salary over the past 3 years, but let's not forget how much of it will have gone to HMRC.

As others have said too, we still don't know if Ally will reinvest any of the money he's made. He did invest some at the last share/rights issue, so can we discount the possibility of him investing some money at the next share issue?
