[FT] Celtic 5 - 2 Rangers (Youth Cup Final 2015)

Recommended Posts

LIAM KELLY would love to get his gloves on the SFA Youth Cup again tonight after his heroics helped bring the trophy back to Murray Park last year.

Kelly showed great composure to score his crucial penalty against Hearts but admits he might not be quite so calm if a similar scenario arises at the national stadium.

He said: “I don’t know about that, it’d be a completely different occasion taking one there!

“I remember being nervous last season, thinking that we had already won it and then the Hearts goalkeeper made a few really good penalty saves too.

“I was quietly confident going into them - especially when I saved the first two. I felt that we had maybe done the hard part and that we just needed to score.

“Thankfully, we did enough to win and I guessed right four times to save the penalties.

“I was actually more nervous trying to save the penalties than taking one - I felt quite confident I was going to score! To win the SFA Youth Cup was great and it would be nice to do it again this season.

“It will be a tough game against Celtic and we are all expecting them to be up for it as much as we are.

“But we have shown this year that we can beat them so we will go into the game confident, hopefully the best eleven will win on the day.”

Tonight's final will effectively be behind-closeddoors with around 750 tickets being given to both clubs to distribute to family and friends of the players and to staff.

This could lead to a strange atmosphere at Hampden but Kelly believes this won’t have an impact on the game.

He said: “It doesn’t matter if there are 20,000 people there or no one there, we’ll still prepare for it in the same way and hopefully we all turn up on the night and help each other out to win the trophy.

“We’ve had a good run in the competition this season. A lot of people last year were saying how well we did to get through a hard run of games and people this year are saying that we’ve had the easy side of the draw. I guess it all evens itself out.

“We’ve had hard ties against teams who always up their game when they play against Rangers, so we’ve done well to get to the final and hopefully we can retain the trophy.”
