Tomorrow's Daily Mail - Rangers show interest in Warburton and Weir

Recommended Posts

Why exactly??

Hmmm....lets see! McCall - took Motherwell to a relegation battle with 5 straight defeats and has won little over half his games with us. He did pretty well before though but in a dross league which doesn't really count for anything.

Or perhaps lets compare their track records in England. Warburton - high flying English manager that took Brentford to the Championship playoffs and has been attracting Premiership interest. McCall - sacked from the bottom division.

I don't think we have any chance of getting a manager of the caliber of Warburton but here's hoping. Even considering keeping McCall beyond an interim basis would be pretty much the most foolish thing the board could do. We will never get anywhere under mediocrity like that, we need to move away from poor SPL managers.

I feel McCall should get more time, yes he will make errors like he did against Hearts..but the best managers in the world make errors from time to time.....i feel Stuart has got us playing a wee bit bit better considering we have the worst squad in living memory....his tactics are a lot better that Ally's

The majority of managers don't make errors they they have been given months of daily forewarning about. His insistence on playing McCulloch cannot be put down to 'these things happen'. The tactics aren't all that better.

The myth that the Championship in England is far better is over played , with the parachute payements its narder and harder to get out of it , even then you are continually in a dog fight to avoid relegation , compare that to us , a sleeping Giant (excuse the description ) , probably playing in Europe the year after next , hmmmm its a no brainer as far as I can see

4th richest league in the world with players earning a fortune v the SPL with its 1 penny TV deal...Brentford just signed our best player for buttons and stuck him on the bench.

Look at the general caliber of player going from Scotland to England and visa versa. Look at the leagues. The SPL is about the standard of League 2. The Championship is full of internationalists with experience in the Premiership and European cups. The SPL is one of the worst leagues in the world.

Playing in Europe the year after next? What exactly does that mean? If that's true what participation will that be? Knocked out of the Europa qualifiers?

McCall's been an improvement but McCoist didn't exactly set the bar high.

Giving someone time for the sake of it hasn't helped us before so we have to learn a lesson, if a clearly better manager is in our reach we have to take the opportunity.

More like an imprisoned and tortured giant who's just about escaping some of its bounds.

As for the Championship, true enough. They have more money than quite a few leagues, even in Europe. That will attract players who might not have signed for the Watfords and Ipswichs and Norwichs in years gone by. Yet, it is filled with people who e.g. previously played in the SP(F)L and lots of no-name* English players. They sure have "a" standard, but it is rather subjective saying how "good" it is, not least when you hardly have a comparison.

*No disrespect, BTW. For who knows the Teddy Bishops, Freddy Sears or Ryan Bennets who appeared in the Norwich vs Ipswich games?

The English game has had many aspiring SPL players over the years, regularly leaving swiftly with their tail between their legs. The likes of Fraser Fyvie, Danny Wilson, Scott Allan, Rhys McCabe and Adam Rooney spring to mind.

The point also remains that McCall has inherited a sub-standard squad playing sub-standard football by their own admission. He has altered the latter, but can't do much about the former. Sometimes people have to sit back and acknowledge what is actually possible, rather than wishful thinking.

As for McCall not being up to it ... who can tell? How many managers are out there doing well at some clubs but being utter gash at others? Depending on quite a few variables other than just the person. Maybe he way rubbish at Motherwell in his ast games there, but if he does what he needs to do with Rangers, who would deny McCall his go at the gaffer's job because he "failed" at 'Well?

NB: SBS ... just in case, I'm not listening/reading/etc.
