Club Statement On Play Off Tickets

RST Statement on SPFL Playoff Ticketing

The negligent running of Scottish football has continued tonight with the SPFL attempt to block Rangers season ticket holders from being admitted to playoff games for free. Fans are once again being treated like second class citizens and as far as we are aware the SPFL have leaked their so called hard line without informing the clubs involved.

It appears that the shambolic SPFL rulebook, written in haste by the same legal minds behind the failed SPL, is only being implemented when it suits the financial concerns of that organisation. A precedent was set last season when the SPFL took no action over Hibs admitting season ticket holders for free. Now suddenly, with a bumper pay day for the SPFL on the horizon, the playing field changes.

Neither Rangers fans, nor indeed fans of other clubs, should have to fund the commercial failure of a Chief Executive and an SPFL board which cannot secure a sponsor for this country's elite competition. It is not our fault, nor the fault of Hibs, Motherwell or Queen of the South fans, that those running the league are incompetent. A sponsor would have negated the need for the SPFL to hold fans of clubs involved in the playoffs to ransom. Why should we pay for their abject failure?

We urge the Rangers board to ignore the SPFL, to allow our season ticket holders to attend home playoff game(s) for free and to challenge any attempt by the SPFL board and their legal advisors to enforce rules that they have wilfully failed to apply to other clubs.

...also, Hibs were allowed to let in season ticket holders for free to give that club a better chance of staying in the Premiership with a large home crowd backing their side to glory, the twelfth man so to speak.

The spfl had already lost Hearts and didn't want to lose another 'big' club so the free entry for ST holders was good for them.

Hamilton Accies had other ideas though.

This is the whole cruix of the matter, they would have liked do to the same for us.

But their greed for instant cash has got the better of them.

They are money grabbing swine and they dont care who know it.

There are two wrongs in play here.

The SPFL, having set a precedent last season with Hibs, should allow Rangers to admit ST holders free. By refusing to allow Rangers to do this, the SPFL is being inconsistent and wrong.

The SPFL however is not being entirely unreasonable taking half the gate to share between other member clubs.

The playoffs exist to give clubs not good enough to win promotion automatically an extra chance to go up. Should incompetence be rewarded by allowing, for example, Rangers, the opportunity to have three extra home games where they pocket the entire gate?

Are we saying that the club that was vastly superior to all the rest - Hearts - should earn nothing from these bonus games. Are we saying that divisional runners-up should make far more money than the champions?

It is because Rangers have been so shockingly poor this season that we have potentially three more home games to get out of this place. This is a bonus. Would we rather finish third and miss out on promotion altogether in a system where there were no playoffs - and no opportunity to earn extra income?

The SPFL is behaving abysmally and none of us should be surprised at that, but Rangers has painted itself quite needlessly into a corner.

The SPFL is wrong - and Rangers are too.

Rangers should just go ahead with their plan and we will see what they can do about it, if anything.

Or charge everyone £2 admission & keep within the SPFL rule book.

Yes before costs isn't fair in any walk of life, it's the sort of thing that would happen to a criminal fighting his corner.

I have no idea what the costs are, but it must run into hundreds of thousands, the spfl are the criminals in this case.

Rules drawn up by crooks themselves...let's take them to court.

The prize for clubs in the play-offs is promotion.

The prize for every other club is some extra cash - generated by the play-offs.

If we were to come up with a system for the play-offs ourselves, we would probably want it to benefit everyone and not just those clubs who weren't good enough to be promoted automatically.

Because it is us being directly affected, and this wasn't on the agenda a year ago, we are up in arms about it, but we really shouldn't be.

This is a losers' tournament to create a winner. The prize is promotion but there should not be riches to go with it.

Does anyone know what the share is in the English play-offs?
