McCall: Shane Ferguson has 'lifted' Rangers despite not making debut yet

Recommended Posts

Sure - genuine competition for places is an agreeable problem to have.

May the best man win but I'd still argue developing our player above selecting someone who's on loan should be part of the decision-making process.

I would argue that, at the business end of the season, the ONLY thing that matters is selecting the person most suitable for the job. If that is a youth, who then under-performs, hook them and put on an alternative.

With a handful of games left in the season and promotion in the balance, developing youngsters is a luxury we shouldn't be tinkering with. That doesn't mean they shouldn't play, simply that McCall should be picking his best team, regardless of age or need for development.

We get better results when he doesn't play and for very good reason. When he disappears and it's regularly he is worse than a man short.

Nonsense. The stats would disagree with you.

Vuckic has played 13 times for us with 5 wins, 5 draws and 3 losses. Without him in the team we have won once and drawn once.

His goals have also been responsible for an additional 4 points being collected - without his goal against Hearts we would have drawn rather than won. In two other games without his goals we would have lost rather than drawn. This would have resulted on Hibs being equal on points with us and with a game in hand.

As I said, the stats differ from the reality in your own mind.

It is such a shame that your hatred of the Newcastle 5 is actually clouding your mind. He is no Leo Messi but he certainly is better than a lot of what we have at the Club. The suggestion we get better results when he doesn't play is completely without merit.

Cue your retort that we would have had even better results with someone else in the team rather than him.... or that we wouldn't have given up a goal because of his laziness (which, again, is more than just a tad unfair). I say it again, how many games have you PHYSICALLY been at to determine his laziness ? TV doesn't show you the full picture - from the two games I was at he was far from being our laziest player, popping up in his own 18 to cover the RB and prevent crosses.

During McCall's tenure - where we would all agree that we have had a better coach getting more from his players :

5 Wins, 3 Draws and one loss

Vuckic, in that same spell of games :

5 wins, 2 Draws and one loss. Now, admittedly, in 2 of those wins he came off the bench - I will deduct one as he came on with 5 minutes left, we were up 2-1 and the goals had already been scored. However, the other win where he came off the bench we were leading 2-1 at the time and he scored an additional two inside 20 minutes to secure the points and prevent a nervy end. he deserves to be credited for that.

So, since McCall's arrival he has been involved in every win we have had and the one game he missed was a draw. What were you saying again about better performances ?

As I said, nonsense.

I know the thread is regards to Ferguson but it's turned into another Vuckic discussion, so I'll put my tuppence worth in...Vuckic has been a breath of fresh air which has resulted in a slight increase in attendances.
