Tims' Treble Trouble

Recommended Posts

Celtic have written to the Scottish Football Association about the refereeing of their Scottish Cup semi-final defeat by Inverness CT.

The Parkhead side were angered by referee Steven MacLean's failure to award a penalty for handball against Josh Meekings when they led 1-0.

Caley Thistle won 3-2 in extra time.

"Given the level of reaction from our supporters and across football, we are duty bound to seek an understanding of what actually happened," the club said.

"We have not been given any other specific explanation so far and this is simply to understand the circumstances of what went on and why such an obvious error was made."

christ, but this club makes my skin crawl at times. Vile to the core.

While some Scottish refereeing officials are under fire for their failure to penalise Inverness defender Josh Meekings for a blatant hand ball in the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat of Celtic, another of their number, Willie Collum, will take charge of Wednesday's Champions League quarter final between Monaco and Juventus. That is a TOP appointment for the much and oft criticised Mr Collum.

It's worth remembering that our referees have suffered from a lack of tough matches (not just old firm games) with Rangers not being in the SPL.

However, they have the advantage of being microscopically investigated every time they referee a celtic match, knowing that any mistake made against celtic will result in grief of some sort.

Perhaps celtic could write to UEFA asking for clarification as to why a Scottish referee was appointed?

Quite so.

I don't think the current crop of Scottish referees are anywhere near as good as some of their predecessors but Delia's initial assessment undoubtedly was correct, Scottish Referees are amongst the best and most highly regarded in Europe. That said, Hugh Dallas working for UEFA certainly does help as Tom Wharton did in his era.
