Another belter from the 07-08 season was where we were not allowed to play a rearranged game for an International weekend because the Scotland squad had a get-together (no game) and were not allowing us to play.

??? it was 1-0 to Zenit until they got their second in stoppage time.

Just before their second goal we were in their penalty box and Novo was about to equalise until Jig got in his road

 

We also had missed a gilt edged chance a wee bit earlier. Though us winning in 2008 would have been a travesty as Zenit were miles ahead of us !

There are a dozen people at least on this forum, who would be more informative and entertaining whilst writing a weekly article than wee barry.

What happened to us in the 07/08 season with some of the issues which have already been mentioned on the thread here was a disgrace, but IMO it's not right to blame the loss of the league (or any other competition we were in that season) purely on the fixture pile-up at the end of the season because we had a hectic schedule for pretty much the whole season.

 

Ok, so the end of season fixtures and decisions made by the SFA, SPL & broadcasters were a joke, but the fixture congestion cost us dearly quite early in the season as well.

 

It would be just as easy to say we lost the league over a 6 to 7 week period from mid September to the end of October where we had to play our first 3 Champions League group stage matches & 2 League Cup matches over the same period as 6 SPL games. During that period we dropped 11 points thanks to losses against Hearts, Hibs & Dundee Utd and a draw at Firpark, but we picked up 7 points in the CL and won our 2 League Cup ties to reach the LC SF.
