SPRINGBURN Football Centre has opened following a £600,000 refurbishment.

The previous sand-based synthetic carpet at Springburn Park had come to the end of its useful life and has been replaced with a new, third generation surface suitable for football and rugby.

Glasgow Life chairman Archie Graham unveiled a plaque to mark the official reopening. took the first penalty kick on the resurfaced pitch and joined pupils for a coaching session.

He said: "The newly resurfaced pitch in Springburn Park is the latest addition to our world class network of pitches.

"It will provide clubs and the local community with year-round access to training and playing facilities.

"Sport can change lives and by investing in facilities such as Springburn Park, we will help inspire the next generation of football players.

"We are a football city and it has been fantastic to see local school children from north Glasgow training on this fantastic new pitch in their local park.

"Who knows, we may have witnessed the next Kenny Dalgleish or John Greig take their first steps to glory."

I know this is not directly rangers chat but worth discussing on here I feel. it is good to see that facilities are improving at grass root level. Hopefully if Scotland can give young players good facilities to play on then the whole of Scottish football will improve. I still have the scars from Knightswood black ash pitches.

Is Springburn a one of or are there now good playing facilities across Scotland?
