RST Statement on Sectarian Language

Recommended Posts

It's quite simple - the Billy Boys will never go away as long as the double standard exists.

We've tried for ten years to remove the song and I think we've actually been very successful as it's not often you hear it anywhere. The only time and reason it creeps back now and again is when the double standard issue is prevalent.

Generally speaking we have got/did get our house in order. However others did not, were not pressured to and their offensive songs remained. That's why we've went backwards and the RST are 100% correct in detailing that in their statement.

I appreciate that you try to strike a balance in all your posts but I am very surprised to find you defending this unacceptable behaviour for any reason.

Furthermore, I disagree that it has crept back in because of double standards.

I didn't hear anyone singing or otherwise referring to Guidetti at Easter Road.

All I heard was some mindless idiots shouting FTP for no apparent reason as well as singing about f***** blood.

I would be far happier if a person such as yourself who is in a position to influence others simply came out with a clear condemnation of such actions rather than trying to justify them on the grounds of what others do and lack of action against them by the authorities. That is no excuse for misbehaviour by our fans in my book.

Frankie didn't defend it. there's a difference between explaining it and defending it.

Of course it has. It stopped completely or a period of time but I crept back in when some fans saw that Celtic fans were carrying on with their sectarian songs with impunity.

I can't decide whether you are deliberately trolling or just don't understand the points that Frankie is making.

I guess this is you trolling by trying to claim that Frankie justified it. Again explaining the reasons for something is not justifying it.

Nah, sorry Ian, but it most definitely HAS crept back into the repertoire - was disappointed to see it in action at both the QotS and Livvy games when I was home.

The RST statement is a very good statement - but they also need to condemn the actions closer to home, otherwise it will be seen as petty point-scoring. You know what they say... point a finger at someone and three will be pointing right back at you - we need to prevent the three pointing back at us by being pro-active.

I never said otherwise Craig, but you can't deny that not all fans sing these songs,me for instance, who used to sing them,it is a minority is all I am saying and I agree we need to make another push to eradicate them.

The conduct of supporters has nothing to do with this particular complaint.

The RST are rightly bringing pressure to bear on an EMPLOYEE of the club, groups of fans are one thing employees are totally different as we saw with our own chris graham.

If this player isn't absolutely hammered for using sectarian language then its open season for the fans.

The article is also attacking C****c as club for defending him.

If there are two separate issues here why would a failure to deal with Guidetti make it "open season for the fans"?

Chris Graham was not an employee of Rangers so there is no comparison with Guidetti.

It would be silly to say that "all" fans sing them - we can see from this thread that there are plenty of people, you and I included, who don't like the add-ons, so it is safe to say that not all of us sing them. But it would be, at this point, easier to just remove the songs again - the RST could make a more transparent statement about the add-ons creeping back in and to remind fans that we need to eradicate them.

I think that is semantics, pure and simple. BOTH are representing the Club whether they like it or not (or, in Chris's case, WERE representing the Club). As Club reps the Club's reputation stands and falls on the behavior of those considered to be officials or employees.

There absolutely IS a comparison between the two, IMHO.

it's simple.

at the line that says "up to our knees......etc." we sing la la la la la

and at the end of the song we sing "We are the Brig'ton Billy Boys" with the add on.....LA ! LA! LA!

it's only the guys that sing the "offending" line that gets huckled

although that's not applicable in European games where we can't sing it at all
