Spain-based Scot Ian Cathro continuing to grow admirers

Recommended Posts

Has he though? I didn't hear anything in his post EGM interview to suggest that. And what role is Magath lined up for? Is he going to oversee/shadow a young Cathro?

Well, he didn't rule it out completely but he certainly didn't sound as if he fancied that type of model.

Magath may be the type of strong character we need but he wasn't a great success as DoF in Germany so it remains to be seen just how involved he is with King.

Cathro is a gamble but he's one that would grab the imagination of many fans I'd say.

I'd like to see someone oversee the football operation above the coaching position though which King seems to have ruled out.

Interesting that Cathro is getting tons of plaudits. When RFC a teams were continually beating his Dundee Utd youths he bemoaned how he was all about the development and not the winning..... But then changed that tone and flip flopped when at the SFA Performance schools.

He does appear to be admired by many though. Which again is surprising given we talk about needing experience.

For me our biggest issue is the infrastructure and Cathro has never had to create such a thing. Would be an interesting appointment if made but also certainly risky.

We'd need to wait a year or two for his work with young players to show the results we want.

He did personally coach Ryan Gauld.

However, what is wrong with continuing with Craig Mulholland as youth academy director ? Mulholland also is highly thought of elsewhere including England.
