RANGERS midfielder Andrew Murdoch has today committed his future to the club by penning an extension to his current deal.

The youngster, who broke into the first team recently under caretaker manager Kenny McDowall, has signed a deal that will extend his stay until May 2017.

Murdoch joins fellow under-20 teammate, goalkeeper Liam Kelly, who also extended his deal until 2017 this week.

Murdoch has been training with the first team for some time and travelled with the squad on pre-season tours of the north of Scotland and North America. He has experience of playing at Ibrox for the Gers youth sides and made his first team bow there when he played and scored against Linfield in a friendly in 2013.

McDowall has kept a keen eye on Murdoch's progress this season as he played in games against Buckie and Brora in Scotland and as a substitute in North America and then regularly as he captained the under-20 side.

The midfielder was a second half substitute in the Cup match against Raith Rovers at Ibrox and was then rewarded by McDowall with a start against Hibs the following week, followed by his second against Raith Rovers last week.

Murdoch has found a way into the hearts of the Rangers faithful already with a superb goal in that match against Raith - an excellent right footed strike straight into the top corner.

Good news, but hoping they dont give extensions to the people who don't deserve it, Murdoch is promising at least!

He's probably one of only a very few who should be getting an extension.

The vast majotity of our first team squad have done absolutely nothing to merit a new contract. A clearout of the dead wood is required.

I'd agree he should have featured more by now but it's good news that he has signed a new deal.

Liam Kelly was supposed to be another who was leaving so hopefully there's been some signals in the background that these younger guys will be getting more of a chance in the future.

We could have had a midfield of. McLeod Hutton Murdoch and telfer for the last 3 years. All for around 3.5 k. A week total.

Instead we have paid black law and temps 20 plus k a week.

WHAT?? I cant imagine anyone at Rangers is getting that much money, let alone £15k p/w.

If true, no bloody wonder we're needing 'loans' aplenty.

Makes depressing reading mate - but yes, things could and should have been so much different. What a waste of three years, what a waste
