Scottish FA appeal ban handed to Rangers' Steve Simonsen for betting

Recommended Posts

The Scottish FA's compliance officer has appealed the suspension given to Rangers goalkeeper Steve Simonsen for betting.

The 35-year-old was banned for two games, one of which was suspended, after admitting gambling on 55 football matches within the last year.

Simonsen has already served his one-match ban but now the governing body have referred the matter to appeal, saying that they feel the "sanction imposed was unduly lenient".

No date has been set for an appeal hearing.

None of the alleged games surrounding Simonsen's case involved Rangers.

Simonsen was accused of placing bets on 18 matches ranging from January 15, 2014 until June 22 as well as a further 37 games this term from September 6, 2014 until January 13, 2015.

Rangers midfielder Ian Black was fined £7500 and given a ten-game ban, seven of which were suspended, after admitting gambling on over 160 games over a seven-year period. Three of those matches included betting against his own club team to win.

Last season, then Ayr United forward Michael Moffat was handed a six-game suspension after being found guilty of betting on 150 other games between February 19, 2012 and September 1, 2013. Moffat's ban was later reduced to four games on appeal.

On the day the scum are fined, again, by UEFA, our ever-compliant "governing" (no laughing!) body release an anti-Rangers statement to use up column inches and airplay and deflect from their beloved poops being the bad guy again.

Can their be any other reason for the timing of this appeal given the original ban was weeks ago.
