Rangers EGM: Dave King hails U-turn on Ibrox venue for crunch meeting as he calls for 'peaceful removal of directors from the board'

KING welcomed today's news that the crunch EGM will now be held at Ibrox after two London hotels pulled out - and remains convinced he has the backing to sweep himself, Paul Murray and John Gilligan into power.

DAVE KING will be standing on Edmiston Drive and ready to claim power the moment the current Rangers board are overthrown at Ibrox.

The South African-based tycoon has welcomed the decision to host the make-or-break general meeting next month at the home of the club where he’s seeking control.

Rangers directors were forced into another embarrassing u-turn today as a second London hotel declined to host the meeting amid fears of disruption to guests.

King last month declared his utter confidence he would win enough votes to overthrow David Somers, James Easdale, Barry Leach and Derek Llambias from their positions on the board after calling the general meeting.

He remains convinced he has at least 51 per cent shareholder backing to sweep himself, Paul Murray and John Gilligan into power and usher in a new dawn for the troubled club.

King has again urged fans to use the proxy vote, but this time is stopping short of asking them not to turn up at their own ground for the meeting, which is expected to last only a few minutes.

He also made a plea for calm amid allegations from Llambias he was subject to an assault by fans in a city centre hotel last week as he enjoyed a drink with Leach.

King said: “It was always my intention to vote by proxy and not travel to London and it remains the case that I will be in Glasgow with my fellow directors ready to commence the business of the day.

“With a second London hotel declining to host the general meeting, members of the Rangers board and the company’s nomad must now accept Ibrox as the best and obvious venue.

“They all have a profound responsibility to the shareholders and fans to hold this meeting within the suggested time frame and so the proxy process must continue as planned. Therefore it is absolutely vital that Rangers fans, who are shareholders, and all other shareholders continue to follow procedure.

“Votes must be cast with Capita by 10am on March 2 and hopefully we will then be able to confirm that the resolutions have been approved well in advance of the actual meeting.

“I have already expressed my views on the decision to have the general meeting in London and I was appealing to fans not to travel.

“However, while Ibrox can easily accommodate everyone who wants to go I believe fans who are also shareholders should still ensure that a properly completed proxy is in place beforehand. The meeting will last only a few minutes as there is no debate beforehand.

“There has been coverage in the media alleging concern by club directors about their personal safety and verbal abuse from Rangers fans and while unrest is understandable any anger must be peacefully channeled towards the removal of directors from the board.

“It is not the Rangers way to threaten individuals on a personal basis and there should be zero tolerance for this.”

The Rangers Supporters Trust have revealed their members are overwhelmingly in support of all the resolutions proposed by King at the general meeting.

More than 99 per cent of votes cast so far by their members back the removal of Somers, Easdale, Llambias and Leach.

More than 99 per cent have backed the resolution to put King and Gilligan on the board, with 98.81 per cent of Trust members backing Murray’s appointment as a director.

King added: “It has been gratifying to see the manner in which fans have rallied since I requisitioned the general meeting.

“This action of increasing and consolidating their shareholding to the point that the fans have collectively become an increasingly significant voice in the future direction of the club is significant.

“The new board will continue to support fan accumulation of shares and the appropriate representation on the board to reflect this new found status.”

An RST spokesman said: “It is already abundantly clear thousands of members are rejecting the current Board.

“However, despite remarkable figures in support of change, the RST are counselling against complacency and are asking all current members to ensure they proxy their votes to the Trust.”

What happens if the date is brought forward by the wigs, in order to catch those shareholders who have not completed their proxy forms? Is there a minimum notice period that must be given?

In any event, if you are not intending to attend, complete and submit the proxy's as soon as possible and hopefully the EGM is merely a formality!

They cant bring it forward. It MUST be after the originally confirmed date and time of March 4th at 10am. There is a thread explaining this.
