Fernando Ricksen slams ex-wife over cash claims in new book

Recommended Posts

His wife will have right to his fortune for the time they were married and rightly so. It also all depends on his marriage agreement and indeed if he did financially mistreat her when they were together. It would be crazy if a wife built up a life with a person while he was making his fortune, taking the good with the bad and then see all the money going to the kids. No chance of that happening in Dutch law in the 20th century.

Doesn't happen in UK law either pete.

Google "John Charman divorce" and you will see it is exactly as you say. John Charman is an insurance executive in Bermuda who got divorced after 20 yrs of marriage - his wife successfully argued that she contributed to the marriage, allowing him to focus on work and ended up getting the highest divorce settlement at the time - she got something like 70 million from him.

A Dutch acquaintance of mine told me that the following generations in Holland think that if they are left an inheritance it was because their parents didn't have a good enough time with their money.

That would not appear to apply to Mr Ricksen.

Yes many say now to their parents that they should enjoy their own life before thinking about the kids.

You are also allowed to gift your kids a certain amount of money each year tax free. 4000 euro'sI think but not sure. Many do that.
