Daly: Consistency Is Key

STRIKER Jon Daly says Rangers will put previous defeats to Hibs out of their minds as they look to find some consistency this season.

The Irishman is desperate for an upturn in fortunes for the Light Blues after two disappointing Cup defeats.

Hibs have narrowed the gap between the teams to a single point, but Rangers have three matches in hand and Daly is eyeing Friday as an opportunity to turn the Gers’ focus to chasing Hearts above.

He said: “If we can win on Friday we still have three games in hand on them and it gives us a cushion to start looking up the way and trying to claw back Hearts which is going to be a big task for us.

“Going in to the season I don’t think we thought we’d be sitting second. We were fully focused on winning the league but we’ve not been consistent enough throughout the season to be top now.

“We are where we are because of that inconsistency and it’s something we can start to put right on Friday and reopen that gap on Hibs.”

Daly believes Rangers can put aside previous losses to the Easter Road side as they aim to make a dent in Hearts’ lead.

He added: “I don’t think it’s a mental thing against them. I think in the games we’ve played against them they’ve been clinical. They’ve scored at good times in the game and we haven’t responded well to going behind.

“They are a good side and they have thoroughly deserved their victories when they have beaten us, but it’s a new game and you need to treat each one differently.

“This is one where we have a chance to get three points and hopefully close the gap on Hearts at the top and try to start applying a bit of pressure on them.

“When you go out you don’t think about the previous games. They’ll obviously be confident but we’ll be working to remedy those results this time round.”

I actually thought we were quite consistent against Hib. I was actually hoping we could break that consistency.
