Nacho Novo rips into the Rangers board and brands them a bunch of cowards

THE former Ibrox striker is seething over his claim club chiefs ordered Kenny McDowall to ban him from Murray Park.

NACHO NOVO has launched an attack on the Rangers regime - calling into question their integrity and courage after he was banned from Murray Park.

The club’s former striker believes he has been blackballed from the Auchenhowie HQ because of his public support for a fans’ group – a story we broke online this evening.

Novo has been using the facilities and training with the first-team squad since returning to Scotland in December, from MLS club Carolina RailHawks.

But the Spaniard - who played and scored at a packed Ibrox in a fund raiser for Fernado Ricksen on Sunday - was informed this morning by caretaker manager Kenny McDowall he is now considered persona non grata.

Novo says McDowall was acting on a edict from chief executive Derek Llambias and insists it’s a retaliatory move for his decision to sign up with Rangers First, a supporters group in favour of fan ownership.

Speaking exclusively to Record Sport, Novo said: “I went to Murray Park as usual in the morning but when I got there Kenny McDowall took me aside. Actually, he looked quite embarrassed.

“He said, ‘Listen wee man, as far as I’m concerned, it’s been great to have you around here. You’ve been fantastic. But I’ve been told they don’t you to train here any more’.

"Apparently the Easdales and Llambias are angry because I’ve joined Rangers First.

“Obviously, the were trying to put Kenny in a bad position but I have nothing but respect for him.

"All he was doing was passing on a message and I’m not going to fall out with him over that. I like Kenny and he is trying his best for the club.

“I told him it wasn’t a problem because I will be going back to America soon to begin my pre-season. I thanked him for helping me out and allowing me to train with the boys for the last couple of months.

“Kenny is not the problem. The problem is the board. For me, there is a word for these kind of people – ‘s****bags’.

“Why? Because they could have phoned me or got in touch with me. They could have come and told me to my face. You don’t put a coach like Kenny in that situation when he has enough problems to deal with.

“But then look at the way they treated Ally McCoist and Ian Durrant. They have shown no respect to Ally, Durranty or Kenny. This is not the way to run a good football club.

“Professional directors do no act in this way. That shows you how bad this Rangers board is.”

Novo went on to accuse the current regime of breaking the club’s heart, describing the men in charge as a ‘cancer’ that must be cut out of Ibrox.

He said: “I was proud to join Rangers First because, as a fan, I’m not behind the board. I’m behind the supporters. So if I can’t train at Murray Park that’s fine. I’m not a Rangers player anymore - I’m only a fan.

“I joined Rangers First because this club needs to be owned by the fans and by the right people. The people in charge just now are not the right people - I’m 100 per cent sure about that.

“On Sunday it was an honour to take part in Fernando’s charity game. To see the fans and the atmosphere reminded me of the way things used to be, every week.

“But that’s all finished now. The heart of the club is broken because of the actions of the board. It’s embarrassing. These people must be told to leave our club alone.

“Not one of them will ever put Rangers first. They should be nowhere near that club.”

Novo went on to give his personal backing to motor tycoon Douglas Park who is one of several high profile Rangers fans attempting to bring the board down.

This morning Park, George Letham and George Taylor had a proposed multi-million pound funding package rejected as the board confirmed it had accepted a massive £10m loan from Sports Direct boss Mike Ashley.

Novo said: “I support Douglas Park because I know the guy as a person and as a Rangers supporter.

"When I first joined the club he helped me a lot at a time when I didn’t have a clue about anything.

"I could hardly speak any English. OK, I don’t speak very good English today either but Douglas was a huge help to me when I needed it.

“He is a Rangers man just like all the ordinary fans. He is the right man for the club, just like Dave King, Paul Murray, Gorge Letham and George Taylor.

"They are Rangers fans who want to bring the club back to the way it used to be and that’s the most important thing.

“It’s so sad because the atmosphere behind the scenes at Murray Park and Ibrox is not the same as it used to be. Everybody is just worried and sad.

“They can’t talk in public about this because they want to keep their jobs. They are scared to say anything.

“But I don’t care if the board don’t like what I say. I want to support the fans because I want them to get their club back. They are united now against the board.

“It’s not just me. Lots of ex-players are getting involved and that shows how many people care about the club. But we need to move quick because this is not our club anymore. It’s not the Rangers I recognise.

“There is a cancer inside the club and we need to get rid of it.”
