When people look at the past for our present failure then it's always too easy to blame various peoples/politicians and the likes but it's more of a combination of things.

 

In the 50's and 60's, our fair city had over 500,000 children, now we have 60,000 so the volume of children has seen quite a drastic reduction.

 

Incidentally, I run boys team (8-9 year olds) and some of the boys still have the raw talent, but has someone pointed out above, most don't play football outwith training and games and some of them are overweight and that's being nice about it, but we've lost one boy to Motherwell and he's a bluenose so hopefully he goes on to make a name for himself but all in all, the SYFA need all coaches to undertake badges and all games are 'uncompetitive' insofar that results are not recorded but as coaches, we are tasked with making sure that the boys/girls enjoy themselves first and foremost.
