Ser Barristan Selmy 222
Well we're as good as Dundee United at bringing through youth players. I'm surprised you don't think players who spend 10 years coming through owe their club anything. Yet when they beat us at Ibrox last season their average age was 23 and ours was 28. Telfer owes us nothing because he was treated like shit by the club.
JohnMc 2,754
Yet when they beat us at Ibrox last season their average age was 23 and ours was 28. Aha, right, so playing for Dundee Utd is the height of his ambition. Fair enough, he's probably better off not being at Rangers then. Telfer owes us nothing because he was treated like shit by the club. Seriously? Was it the fantastic facilities at Auchenhowie or the salary he got since he went pro that tipped him over the edge do you think? Here's what I think, the hard-on you've got for some at the club is blinding you to the fact that this boy showed no loyalty, no patience, no willingness to fight for a place and no care for what the fans of Rangers, the people who ultimately have funded his 10 year apprenticeship, think or care.

It probably had more to do with the fact the club forgot to offer him a new contract and gave him no first team opportunities even when the league was won. Whether his contract was really forgotten about or not, he clearly wasn't wanted.

craig 5,199
Well we're as good as Dundee United at bringing through youth players. I'm surprised you don't think players who spend 10 years coming through owe their club anything. They don't, that is the luxury of having a contract. He is entitled to go where he pleases if that contract runs out, as was the case. Edited December 16, 2014 by craig

Me thinks you need to awaken from your 1970's to 1990's slumber where loyalty was the norm rather than the exception. Modern Day football has very little loyalty left in it - and is partly the reason that anyone who lasts more than 5 yrs at a Club as a pro is lauded as a "legend" these days.

It probably had more to do with the fact the club forgot to offer him a new contract and gave him no first team opportunities even when the league was won. Whether his contract was really forgotten about or not, he clearly wasn't wanted. As was the same with McGeough. Yes, he is a Tim and would probably have went to Celtic anyway - but he wasn't in the Club's list of the top 5 youths to get 1st team squad experience - he had enough confidence in his own ability that he said "If I'm not in the top 5 here then I need to move on". Could easily be the same with Telfer - wasn't given an opportunity with dross like Black & Peralta in the team ahead of him - no wonder the lad decided to move on.
craig 5,199
Thought they had no claim on newco? Interesting Rab. We heard that GreenCo had paid for all the "assets" upon the oldco to newco transfer - seems BDO don't believe that necessarily included the players - this could get interesting though given GreenCo did pay football debts (with RFFF assistance of course)
