der Berliner 3,837
Newcastle have already been relegated from the EPL under Ashley's regime though and that's only during a relatively short time of just over 7 years. All Ashley really needs from Rangers is for our fans to keep buying merchandise from Sports Direct. Yes, but how many would buy Rangers stuff if we have Championship or mediocre Premiership folk on the field of play?
forlanssister 3,114
Zappa, but Newcastle can be financially successful just by staying in the Premier League . Rangers need to be in Europe to get anywhere close to the kind of return he'd want . They have to make a profit on transfer dealings otherwise they run at a loss, Ashley's £130m loan may well be interest free but saving circa £8m in interest costs Newcastle circa £30m in lost commercial income. That's the model that works for Ashley at Newcastle why would he change it at Rangers.
Zappa 0
Yes, but how many would buy Rangers stuff if we have Championship or mediocre Premiership folk on the field of play? There's 10's of thousands of people who buy Rangers merchandise despite the fact that they don't even watch most of our games. Ashley doesn't need us being top dog in Scotland and playing in the Champions League to make a killing, he just needs us back competing in the top flight and has the added bonus of our games against 'them' being broadcast all over the world. Ser Barristan Selmy 222
Yes, but how many would buy Rangers stuff if we have Championship or mediocre Premiership folk on the field of play? For 10 years + we have been buying players much worse than that. We won't be going near anyone half decent in England any time soon.

I was speaking about our current squad ... and not thinking about England (it's called EPL down there ... ) at all.
