Frankie 8,687
Sad news... IMO, another aspect of what's happened in recent years is the erosion of such giant killing acts. Draws and defeats by teams that are arguably much smaller than Berwick were then means one-off shock results such as the 1967 match look tame in comparison. Nowadays if we draw or get beat by a 'smaller' team, there's just a shrug of the shoulders rather than genuine shock.

Isn't that a lot to do with the fact that for the past two/three seasons we've been playing "smaller" teams every week (Hearts and Hibs now excepted).
BrahimHemdani 1
and we got to a European final that year as well You can ask Dave Smith about both matches if you come along to the Gersnet Dinner on 6 December. Plug, plug.....

To a certain extent, aye but with the budget we have we should still have the same kind of advantage the 1967 team did.

der Berliner 3,888
Well, I wasn't about in that era, but for some reason that "cup shock" must have send shock waves of 12.0 on the Richter scale at the time ... if you go by the continuous mentioning of it. We suffered dozens of defeats to lower league teams throughout the years since and you wonder whether that has lessened the humdrum that is being made about each such a defeat. Is anyone speaking about the Yahoos' defeat at home against Morton last season or knows the scorer? Outside the odd Greenock pub that is? I see these cup defeats as a deviation from the norm, a deviation that happens every now and then - all over the world. I still remember some of those scorers who gave us woe in the 80s and 90s in the odd 1-0 defeat, even at home, folk like Adrian Sprott, Kevin Twaddle or Kevin (?) McGowne. Or Ivan Sproule and Allan Johnston. Their once-in-a-lifetime shot at glory, a defining thing in their life and club's history. Nothing defining in our history though.
