It's perhaps unfair to lump King in with the others on that list but it's only fair to acknowledge the faults he does bring to the table as well.

The chances of obtaining a new owner willing to pump in tens of millions for philanthropic reasons is next to zero. Yes, King's intentions my ultimately be more kind to the club but it's far from certain his and our ambitions may line up any time soon.

No-one is coming to pump in tens of millions for philanthropic reasons but the main difference between King and the rest is that the former would run or have run the business with the club in mind whilst the latter would be doing so for profit that would leave 'in their pockets'.

That is to say, run as a football club and not as a corporate vehicle to profit from.

Regards the CV and his tax offences from SA, they are now settled.

Unlike Rafat Rizvi who is still 'wanted'.

Interested: Dave King is attempting to invest £16m in Rangers and gain control of the club.SNS Group

Dave King has held talks with influential Rangers shareholder Sandy Easdale over his plans to gain control of the club.

The South African businessman is attempting to invest in the Ibrox side and held talks with board members last Tuesday.

King's proposed £16m offer, which is in conjunction with at least two other businessmen, would require dispensation being given by 75 per cent of the club's shareholders for the release of new shares in the company.

Easdale's contribution to the matter is significant as he currently holds the voting rights to just over 26 per cent of the shares in the company, giving him the power to block any fresh release of equity at the club's next annual general meeting.

STV understands that King is open to a deal which could potentially appease shareholders concerned their investments will be significantly diluted if fresh shares are released by the company.

The 59-year-old could potentially provide a secured loan to Rangers, who are believed to be struggling to find funds to meet their November payroll.

In return, King would seek shares from any fresh issue, as well as control of the club's plc board.

Should he be successful in achieving a change of control at Ibrox, King's conviction in South Africa last year on 41 counts of contravening the Income Tax Act would likely result in the Scottish FA having to rule whether he is a fit and proper person to be in charge.

Changes to the governing body's rules last year extended their jurisdiction beyond individuals named as office bearers.

Now, a club is instructed to inform the Scottish FA of any possible conflict with its fit and proper person guidelines if a person is to take control of its affairs.

Having left Glasgow last Thursday for a trip to Italy, he has remained in contact with members of the Rangers board over his proposal, although a planned meeting on Monday fell through.

King is expected to issue a statement on his proposed investment on Thursday.

Any moderate broker could run rings round the Easdales. King especially, but what the Easdales can be convinced of matters not a jot to his master.

Can't say I'm confident King's proposal will get the sp.iv approval.
