Gough today...

Former skipper Richard Gough said: “Does it have to be that way?

“Is there no way these two businessmen can work together for the benefit or Rangers?

“The Newcastle owner appears to have watertight retail contracts at Ibrox and is obviously out to make money.

“It’s in everyone’s best interests that Rangers are back in the Champions League as soon as possible.

“I’m positive about that.

“He has a plan and will invest the cash if he gets the chance.”

The less important meetings at Ibrox attended by that pair, the better.

IF Ashley is going to work with King then I fancy both of them are toast. It won't be immediate but I can't see Rangers men steeped in Rangers traditions willing to work besides two oafs in the long term. Their influence will lessen overtime.

Fingers crossed that King is successful with whatever is going on here.

If it's a £16m loan to be converted to a controlling shareholding, then it's a great move on King's part.

No doubt considerably more than he'd like to have paid though, but desperate situations often require desperate measures.

They should never have been anywhere near the Ibrox boardrooms in the first place mate, so if King gets control they hopefully won't last long.

DAVE KING stepped up his bid to buy his way into Rangers yesterday when he arrived at Ibrox for crunch talks about his proposed £16m bailout.

King flew into Scotland from his South African base on Monday night arriving at the club’s stadium this afternoon.

We revealed last week that King had teamed up with wealthy fan George Letham and former director Paul Murray to bankroll an urgently needed rescue package which would enable the club to stave off yet more financial distress.

In return for the huge cash injection King and his group want a 51 per cent stake in Rangers, through the issue of new shares.

The move has been backed by chief executive Graham Wallace and director Philip Nash - the two men Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is currently trying to have booted off the board.

But King’s sudden arrival on Scottish soil indicates that he believes he is close to securing a deal.

King may even attempt to make contact with Ashley - who owns an 8.92 per cent chunk of the Ibrox club - during his visit to see if common ground can be found.

As well as controlling the club’s retail stores and shirt sales, Ashley also owns the naming rights for the stadium as part of a hugely controversial £1 deal with former CEO Charles Green - an agreement which was uncovered by Record Sport.

But if King’s consortium holds no threat to Ashley’s lucrative contracts then the Sports Direct boss could yet be talked into scaling back on his own ongoing attempts to grab a bigger share of boardroom control.

Dave King has had a meeting at Ibrox and is optimistic his offer of investment in Rangers will be accepted.

Doubts remain over whether Rangers have enough money to see out the season, despite recently raising £3m from a share issue.

On his way out of Ibrox, King was asked if he was optimistic a deal could be agreed and told reporters: "Yes we are."

Rangers are currently second in the Scottish Championship.

King was a director and an investor at Ibrox during Sir David Murray's ownership of Rangers and harbours a desire to put money into the club.

In recent weeks, Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has increased his stake in Rangers to around 9% and has called for an extraordinary meeting of shareholders to remove chief executive Graham Wallace and director Philip Nash.

And Paul Murray, who like King previously served on the Rangers board, said last week that the pair were part of group holding discussions with Ibrox directors to provide funding.

Indeed but we were weak and the likes of the Easdales were invited to the 'suck on the blue tit' party

So are King and co in the knowledge that Ashley's deal is watertight and cannot be cancelled? Bite the bullet and accept Ashley's shite for seven years.
