It shouldn't surprise anyone about Ashley's MO - he does this all the time so in effect we'd just become another distressed brand in his SD stable.

In many ways that 'stability' would be useful in tandem with the significant investment required but as we've seen with Newcastle, neither would his involvement mean automatic success - though clearly Scottish football is a bit less competitive than down South.

We have to remember SDM used to hive off assets as well so outsourcing of such stuff isn't a new ploy. Neither should it necessarily be a bad one. However, ensuring we get the best possible deal from our weak position is far from guaranteed - we only need look at the last two years to see that.

I don't know what would be the best option but I can only urge supporters to retain an open mind and have their say.

Surely the front page story above is enough to open the eyes of even the most gullible - Ashley must be stopped ! .

Fan ownership would stop all undesirable would-be owners in their tracks but relatively few sign up to it, so no matter what Ashley's motivation is, and even if people don't like it, if he wants to buy Rangers, he can and he will, and we can mutter away interminably. It won't change anything.

Rangers belongs to whoever buys it. Sniping disapprovingly from the sidelines is the extent of our vision.

Daily Mail now suggesting the following:

Mike Ashley's dramatic bid to oust Rangers chief executive Graham Wallace could thwart an initial £16million proposal being tabled by an alliance of potential investors including Dave King.

A statement from former director Paul Murray and shareholder George Letham – two figureheads of the investment group – confirmed last night they have been in detailed discussions with the Ibrox board.

Sportsmail believes their proposal involves an up-front investment of around £16m – close to the current market value of the club - in return for a 51 per cent stake acquired via a new share issue. That would see them take control of the boardroom, with further investments then staggered to move closer to the £30m-plus King has previously stated it will take to restore Rangers.

All depends how quickly and successful the Triumvirate can talk this through with board and important investors. Laxey might well lose some input here, but at least their shares would gain more value than now (if not the 70p they paid for).
