MIKE ASHLEY has doubled his stake in Rangers.

The Newcastle owner now owns around nine per cent of the Scottish Championship club.

Investment group Hargreave Hale confirmed it was behind the sale of £853,000 worth of shares in the fallen Glaswegian giants.

Ashley’s purchase came hours after Gers fans threatened to boycott his Sports Direct stores over the cut-price deal he struck for the Ibrox naming rights.

A spokesman for fans’ group Sons of Struth said: “We call on Mike Ashley to cancel his contract before the October 11.

“If he still retains the naming rights after this point, we will instigate an immediate series of actions aimed at his Sports Direct stores.”

So won't put money into rangers at 20p a share but will buy from others. Hmmmm. Why would he want hh to get more cash and rangers less.

Most likely a toxic lie but if it is Ashley then we will have to be told. Regulations and such.

Rangers fans' fury as signatures of Ibrox hate figures Charles Green and Brian Stockbridge appear on new share certificates

THE Rangers shareholders were astonished to find the certificates signed by Green and Stockbridge, who were both forced out of the club for their part in the current financial disaster.

RANGERS fans last night reacted with bemusement after Ibrox hate figures Charles Green and Brian Stockbridge’s names were found on the club’s new share certificates.

Chief executive Green and financial director Stockbridge were forced out for their part in Rangers’ current financial disaster.

More than 1400 current shareholders took up the option to buy shares in the recent open offer.

They were astonished to find their official share certificates were signed by Green and Stockbridge.

They should have featured chief executive Graham Wallace ’s signature.

The template used was from the first Rangers International plc share issue two years ago. Last night, the club – who blamed the error on Capita Registrars who will now distribute new certificates – came under fire.

Union of Fans spokesman Chris Graham said: “Under normal circumstances, the ex-CEO and finance director being on a share certificate would be laughed off as a silly mistake.

“But part of the problem is that this board haven’t been able to distance themselves properly from Green and Stockbridge.

“The problem is these two guys, as far as we can tell, still have shareholdings in Rangers and are sitting in that Sandy Easdale proxy block being used against what we consider to be the best interests of the club.

“When you look at it that way, then the fact their names are on a share certificate makes it much worse because of the way they conducted themselves when they were at the club and the way in which they left.

“They have never really gone away and that’s the problem. An error like this isn’t going to help that.

“As far as we can tell, there’s no evidence that Charles Green has actually sold his shares

and he has even been active recently with his nonsense about George Soros.

“I just think the club is a shambles at the moment.

“There’s no real attention being paid to how the club is run.

“There is a constant scramble for money and, as we’ve said many times, all this work that is being done to find this money should have been done nine months ago.

“Then, the club would be sitting in a much better position and maybe then mistakes like this could have been laughed off.”

The club had set a minimum target of selling 15million shares and passed that by 667,860 as they raised £3.1million to stave off any immediate threat of lurching into administration for a second time.

Rangers boss Ally McCoist was one of those who dipped into his own pocket .

Several plc directors increased their shareholdings – most significantly bus tycoon James Easdale, who purchased 215,606 of the 20p shares.

A Rangers spokesperson said: “Some shareholders have received incorrect certificates following a printing error by the external financial administration company which manages this service for the club.

“New share certificates will be reissued by them as a priority and they have apologised for the error made.”

Shit happens. It would have shown a certain degree of dignity had the UoF and Graham left this as it is. Someone's got to start somewhere.
