It's certainly a strange lunch date when Mr Easdale promised us last December in an interview with STV that Rafat Rizvi was not part of his plans for Ibrox

While it might not be popular ... what if (sic!) King had met Easdale in the same manner before he paid himself out of any conviction? Would we see a "tax-escapist" in the headline instead?

 

When King was chased by the RSA tax people, many claimed that the authorities down there were corrupt to the core while King was essentially too clever for them or too shrewd. He paid a few million to keep his name clear of any conviction. On face value of this article, you would think that the difference here is that Rivzi left the country before the prosecution could get hold of him, a prosecution that may or may not be as legally sound as the British or indeed South African is. That they convicted him in absentia is the reason why Indonesia asked Interpol to chase him, whether his actual trial will reveal any fraud is anyone's guess. Some of our more esteemed know-alls will sure clear that up. It obviously makes a perfect match for people who simply see two "criminals" walking the streets. Like it did for Jackson and Co.. The reaction was a foregone conclusion.

 

The actual story was buried beneath that, i.e. that Rivzi (due to his contacts in Asia) most likely established the connection with that Malaysian business-man and the club's board. Whether anything will come of that remains to be seen. By the looks of it, this Datuk Faizoull Bin Ahmad character does not seem to be overly worried by Rivzi's conviction either, which may or may not tell you a thing or two about the Indonesian trial affair. Unless they are all shadowy people et al ...

 

BTW ... I don't want any criminal or ex-criminal or potential criminal associated with the club. That should not stop us from looking at the fineprint before going ballistic though.

As FS posted last night, Interpol cannot do anything to Rizvi in countries that have do not have extradition treaties with Indonesia. No EU country can extradite Rizvi to Indonesia as they have the death penalty.
