Again, it's not meant to explain our situation, but should not be simply taken out of the equation altogether either. If people come up and say "our football is shyte" you are at one time or another bound to ask: "right, what happens on other pitches in Scotland? Fast flowing, cultivated football that attracts thousands of people?" Or have we indeed reached a level where football in Scotland is in general rather "poor". And out of that "poor" stuff we pick players who deliver us "poor" football and thus people stay away, according to some. We all appear to know why Rangers people stay away from Ibrox anyway, so a look beyond the fence won't do any harm. If you pick people from a "poor" pool of players (from Scotland), playing for Rangers does not make them better players. All I'm saying is it is, by and large, irrelevant to our problems so generally IMHO a waste of time. I wouldn't say the footballing product at Ibrox is that much worse than at most other Scottish clubs. Neither is the overall experience or price that different. Nor do we suffer more from economical factors. Ergo, that leaves us with what's happening off the park as the main reason for the decrease in sales. If you do want to look elsewhere, then the best comparison is probably at Tynecastle. In recent times, Hearts have suffered from the same financial and board problems but their ticket sales have since increased. Perhaps a temporary increase (just like we kept numbers through Div 3 and 2) but they're showing why engaging with fans can help rather than hinder. Perhaps the time you are looking "beyond the fence" prevents you from seeing what is in your own 'backyard'. Bear in mind that: We have the highest paid manager in Scottish Football. The best training facility in Scottish football. The second highest budget on the playing squad. More International players than all but one other club. It has been the excuse of choice from the bottom tier onwards, and it really is a piece of nonsense. If a team drops it's level down to that of an inferior opponent, it is purely down to attitude and application of the players on the pitch - functions which should be dealt with by their manager. Regards this type of decision, the base problem with the board and those who are close to it, is that their main motivation isn't the football club. The disagreements between different parties in and around the board further complicates the situation.
