der Berliner 3,809
i don't understand what it is with people who can just blot out 90 minutes of torture every week and shrug their shoulders and say"ach well we won" Generally ... I don't understand people who can blot out years upon years where we played with super players but had dire results and performances as well, but usually came good in the end, sometimes with good performances, sometimes with bad ones. You won't find many who are actually happy with watching rubbish football even if the result is a good one. But you will probably find a lot who'll say: "at least we won!" In this day and age you will find a lot of people who need to blame someone (sic!) for all and sundry and likewise blot out the various circumstances of how results and performances come about at any given game. And of course - should you question their statements - they'll come out and try beating you with the "excuse"-club, which shows an even greater lack of objectivity. Not that this will concern them in the slightest. Threads are time and again poluted with repetitive statements that simply even ignore the most simplests of "truths": McCoist will not be sacked because of poor performances. He will be sacked for poor results. As long as those happen by, for the time being, we'll have to live with sub-Rangers-standard football. And no-one is liking that and we all should be old enough to know that blurrting about it 24/7 won't help.
Zappa 0
Lillie was 16 games in I think. But I really was talking about how we were playing. No, it was 21 games into the league season that we lost our first game after 17 wins and 3 draws. But now that someone has pointed that out all of a sudden you were 'really talking about how we were playing' when you said "We were awful from the word go under him. Results held up in the league for 10 or so games then plummeted." I'm sure you can forgive the confusion here mate.

I clearly separate awful and results.

Zappa 0
Also still looks like 16 games to me. I think you're right gs it was maybe 16. I was probably wrong, so my bad! My general point still stands though, since you originally said that we blew it or in your own words 'Results held up in the league for 10 or so games then plummeted' which wasn't the case at all.

calscot 0
I think that if you're after good football and not interested results then why support Rangers - a club more renowned for winning stuff than its good football? Maybe part of it is that you might be Scottish but the fact is that there are few sides in Scottish football that have been known for highly entertaining football, it's always been a place where it's "played at 100 mph" and in a robust manner. The Scottish leagues have 42 clubs that garner support from the indigenous population, to go out and watch this "torture". However, only the fans of a couple of clubs have the luxury and compensation of winning most weeks. Some people are always strangely pointing out how much better other clubs are and given critical reasons for this - so I keep asking them to try to pretend to support any of these clubs for a month or two, and I guarantee that you'll find that the same type things happen, the football is the same or worse, and the exact same criticism applies. Even if you choose Celtic (who seem more admired on here by some than Rangers), they have just been totally pumped in Europe by a Polish team. I also asked people to predict an exemplar team to watch this season for the type of football they want along with good results, and got no takers. It all much easier to do it in hindsight. But then people were predicting Rangers would struggle in the league last season as it would be a step up from the one before. They were 100% wrong and so now the volume on the complaints about the football has to be turned up to justify their negativity.
