Rangersitis 0
Yes I can see all that happening and UEFA's use of the term "sanctioned" rather than any reference to a disciplinary case or protest supports your theory, so when UEFA get the team lines for the second leg v Celtic the flag drops on the player because technically he still has two matches of his ban to serve. May well be exactly what happened. But this still implies that all this happened at the speed of light, possible if as I said the team lines were submittted electronically, otherwise it still leaves a lingering doubt about the procedure. This is quite helpful Celtic have been reinstated in the Champions League after Legia Warsaw were ejected from the competition for fielding an ineligible player, UEFA has announced. Polish side Legia won their third qualifying round tie against the Scottish champions 6-1 on aggregate, but were found to have fielded an ineligible player in the second leg on Wednesday night by European football's governing body. Bartosz Bereszynski, who was an 86th-minute substitute at Murrayfield, was sent off for violent conduct against Apollon in the final match of Legia's Europa League campaign last season. The full-back missed both of Legia's matches against St Patrick's in the second qualifying round and sat out the 4-1 first-leg victory over Celtic. Celtic have been drawn against Maribor in the play-off round. UEFA's investigation centred on whether the player was registered in Legia's squad against the Irish side in order to allow a three-match suspension to take effect. Champions League regulations state that players must be registered with UEFA within requested deadlines and that "only eligible players can serve pending suspensions." UEFA's disciplinary regulations say a match may be forfeited if an ineligible player participates, "as long as the opposing team files a protest". Read more at http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/330605.html#Ad7DzXygkrT1q3AM.99 So again it goes back to how did Celtic know to file the protest? The 'may' be forfeited applies to ineligible players. The excerpt I posted earlier regarding suspended players says 'will' be forfeited. “We found out about this situation on Thursday afternoon. It was a UEFA delegate – Paul Krahenbuhl of Switzerland – who found out about it. “What happens in a situation like this is that, if a player is found not to be eligible, Legia will have to forfeit and lose 3-0. “Basically, there are two possibilities. UEFA either find the player was eligible and nothing further will happen or Legia will forfeit and Celtic will go through.”
der Berliner 3,808
Celtic awards bullshit goals to fictional player 08-08-14 CELTIC has invented a fictional hero to take credit for the three goals it never scored. The club was awarded a completely made-up 3-0 Champions League qualifying victory over Legia Warsaw after the Polish team accidentally fielded an invincible football robot for two minutes of injury time. Now the Glasgow club has honoured the achievement by awarding the goals to the fictional attacking midfielder, Declan Sanchez. A club spokesman said: “Declan is a working class boy from Galway whose grandfather was an Argentinian human rights activist and a close friend of Che Guevara. “Declan joined Celtic at the age of seven after being spotted by Kenny Dalglish, adopted by Charlie Nicholas and trained by Henrik Larsson. When he is not creating and scoring magnificent goals he writes poetry about imperialist oppression. “And he has the voice of an angel.” Daily Mash

BrahimHemdani 1
Now on UEFA's site: Friday 8 August 2014 12.17CET Legia forfeit Celtic match The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has met today and announced the following disciplinary decision following the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie in Edinburgh between Celtic FC and Legia Warszawa on 6 August 2014. Legia have been sanctioned for fielding a suspended player (article 18 of the UEFA Champions League regulations and article 21 of the Disciplinary Regulations). The match has been declared as forfeit meaning Legia Warszawa have lost the match 3-0. As a consequence, Celtic have qualified for the UEFA Champions League play-offs on away goals (agg: 4-4) and Legia will compete in the UEFA Europa League play-offs. In addition the player Bartosz Bereszynski has been suspended for one additional UEFA competition match for which he would be otherwise eligible. This suspension shall be added to the remaining two match suspension which the player still has to serve in accordance with the Control and Disciplinary Body decision of 13 February 2014.
der Berliner 3,808
The Debrecen game isn't precedent where this incident is concerned. I have posted two matches which show precedent further up the thread. Playing the devil's advocate on technicalities? You do agree that this was a pure mishap by Legia rather than an active attempt to gain any sort of advantage, which is why UEFA have their rules in place, I reckon?

der Berliner 3,808
Alas ... Champions League: Legia Warsaw coach Henning Berg says club plan UEFA appeal Legia Warsaw head coach Henning Berg has vowed to appeal the decision to expel his club from the Champions League over a 'small administration error'. Berg reacted with fury after UEFA ruled the Polish champions had fielded in ineligible player in their 2-0 second leg defeat of Celtic at Murrayfield on Wednesday. The victory completed a 6-1 aggregate win and should have secured Legia a play-off place before the game's governing body claimed their defender Bartosz Bereszynski had not been properly registered. Bereszynski had been sent off against Apollon in the final match of Legia's Europa League campaign last season and was handed an automatic three-match ban. He missed both ties against St Patrick's in the second qualifying round and then sat out the first leg against Celtic. But UEFA decided he had not been registered in Legia's squad for the games against the Irish side in order to allow a three-match suspension to take effect. Speaking to Sky Sports News, Berg said: "We will appeal this, definitely. We will go as high as we can because we do not think this is the right decision. Shocked "We are absolutely shocked at this decision. For UEFA to make this, with the consequences of it for what has happened, is unbelievable. "We have a player from last season playing in the Europa League being suspended for three games after a red card. This season he did not play the first two games against St Patrick's and the first game against Celtic and then he was ready for the fourth game. "He should have been ok. The technical mistake which our administration made was not to put him in the squad for the two first games against St Patrick's for him to serve his suspension. "And this little technical mistake for him not being on this paper without even playing has taken away our chance of getting into the Champions League which would have been a dream for this club and these players who have worked so hard for us to get to this position. "He has been registered to us for all this time so we were not trying to hide anything. This has been open and this is just a little small technical mistake in the administration and the consequences for us now is very, very difficult to take." And Berg has called on UEFA to show consistency, pointing out they have used different punishment for similar offences in the past. "I think this goes against every intention of fair play and fair competition and I think there has been a case like this before. Good faith "In 2010 Debrecen from Hungary also used a player and their case was not even as strong as ours and UEFA told them because they acted in good faith the result stood and it was not affected. "So for them to make a different decision this time with consequences like this is very, very difficult to take. European football should be about fair competition and fair play. "The financial implications of this impact hugely on the club, on how we want to build it in the future. We are progressing as a club, we have won the league two years in a row and we are building for the future and I feel for the players who have worked so hard to get us to this position. "There has not been a Polish team in the Champions League for 17 or 18 years and we felt we had a good chance to get to it and it has been taken away from us because of this technical mistake and the decision from UEFA." Legia chairman Boguslaw Lesniodorski believes Celtic should have refused to accept the ruling after being so convincingly beaten by their Polish rivals. “I’m very disappointed, once again football and sport lost," he said. "We hope that Celtic will react and follow fair play rules. For us what happened on the field matters.” Following the decision, Legia were placed into the final qualifying round for the Europa League where they were paired with Aktobe of Kazakhstan, while Celtic were drawn against Slovenian side Maribor in the Champions League play-offs. Sky Sports ... and essentially nothing more needs to be said. Will the Yahoos act accordingly? Not in a month of Sundays.
