der Berliner 3,806
Tactical move to ensure that we have at least one central defender with lots of SPL experience for our first year back in the top flight. Maybe so. Likewise, McGregor and others a) might more easily be freed should they not be up for scratch, or b) put a private line in their "one year plus options" contracts to renegotiate them to the better once we are up were we belong. We can't afford zaluskas. We might as well get good players we can't afford. And you know this how?
Zappa 0
Fair enough but why not do that with Boyd who is worth 20+ goals in the top tier and has no significant injury history to speak of ? No idea mate. I did think it was odd that Miller & McGregor got 1 year deals with an optional 1 year extension and no such extension option was mentioned when we signed Boyd. Probably just something to do with terms on a second year or optional extension not getting agreed. Boyd won't be fussed anyway because he knows that if we don't give him another deal next summer he'll be able to get a club no problem anyway.

Passed my mind that there may be a provisional plan to change the management team at some point before next season (15/16).
the gunslinger 3,366
We are running at a loss without signing players. Burning through millions of pounds of cash. That's how. It's patently obvious.
buster. 5,257
And you know this how? "Should the Club suffer a substantial decrease in season ticket income in the next two months, then it would be unable to trade in the short term without seeking additional external funding as previously disclosed in the RIFC December 2013 interim results. " ----- "The Club acquired a number of players in Summer 2013 that, based on financial forecasts, it should have known that it could not afford. " http://www.rangers.co.uk/images/staticcontent/documents/RangersBusinessReview.pdf "The board of Rangers (the "Board") can confirm that approximately 17,000 season tickets have been renewed to date for the Club's forthcoming SPFL Championship season. This level of renewals reduces the potential requirement for short term financing as highlighted in the Business Review Summary published on 25 April 2014 particularly given the updated season ticket pricing structure for the 2014/15 campaign." http://rangers.g3dhosting.com/regulatory_news_article/381
BEARGER 1,830
Has McGregor ever played in another position? If not he soon will.

And you'd say that not signing players and shedding half of those we have will bring us closer to break even (and as we all know most clubs this side of Saturn's rings achieve that)? And once that is done we should find those elusive high-quality people who are willing to come to the Scottish Championship and play for us for a hopefully minimal wage? Well, we'll see soon enough whether we have the cash to sustain this period of low income.
BrahimHemdani 1
Two years opposed compared to what was becoming a standard 12 months. Thoughts ? Perhaps because he's still 30 rather than over 30? But more likely even at 31 he should be more than good enough for our first season back in the SPL so saves any hassle next summer. However, it's good we have back up because his disciplinary record is far from impressive and you can probably count on him being red-carded once or twice a season.
BrahimHemdani 1
We can't afford zaluskas. We might as well get good players we can't afford. You are never satisfied (which is sometimes fine) but right now we have to be realistic. Zaliukas is proven at SPL level and was captain of Hearts. That's about as good as it gets right now. How do you know we can't afford him, how much is he being paid then; it's self evident that we can. I would think a lot less than Jig or Cribari for that matter. Don't you think he's better than Cribari, so can't you accept it as a step in the right direction?
