Steve1872 4
Both Moyes & van Gaal have 37 pts after 21 #MUFC games, but what about points per £££? What is the difference?
buster. 4,974
One other significant variable to bare in mind when it comes to comparing Moyes and LVG wrt to League points total, is that Moyes had a midweek Champions League campaign to deal with whilst LVG has next to no midweek games (European or League Cup). So with that in mind, Moyes (via CL) must have brought in over 30M pounds or at least enough to cover the 27.5M on the graphic above. LVG wasn't expected to win the title but he will have been expected to qualify directly for the CL or at the very least indirectly through 4th place. If he didn't achieve this, he'd be vulnerable. Question If Everton or Spurs were to win the Eurpa League and qualify for the CL 2015/16, then would that mean 4th place in the League (EPL) wouldn't ? ------------------------------------------------------- I think you have to begin to focus criticism on the Manchester United board regarding their managerial appointments. No, UEFA have confirmed that the entry for the EL winners will be in addition to league placings. buster. 4,974
League season heading into the last third and Van Gaal has still not convinced. He has spent a huge wad of cash but doesn't seem to have been able to put a side together that shows anywhere near value. The press have generally given him a lot of leeway but for how much longer if Man Utd were to be struggling to qualify for a CL place ? Reasonable expectation as per earlier in this thread was a third place finish. I reckon they'd now bite your hand off for fourth spot. Some tasty League fixtures coming soon...... March ManU v Arsenal ManU v Spurs Liverpool v ManU April ManU v Man City Chelsea v ManU Edited February 24, 2015 by buster.
Gribz 745
Man Utd first performance of the season yet Spurs were garbage. Liverpool were lucky last night, they were played off the park by Swansea in the first half then the goal seemed a huge bit of luck. Sunday will be good but wont be a CL spot decider as Liverpool have got to go to Arsenal next week and still go to Chelsea. Man Utd have City coming up then also a trip to Chelsea plus Arsenal at home so there is still twists and turns yet.
buster. 4,974
LVG was always a bad appointment and was never going to work. How much money is that spent and can't get out of CL group. IIRC Moyes managed that. edit Just to add I think that the Man Utd board and especially those involved with the recruitment process have to take a look at themselves. They appointed Moyes, a man who it was known would need time and they weren't prepared to to stick with it. They appointed LVG and threw money at what I'd call 'yesterdays man' and said at the start he wouldn't hack it. Need some vision. Ser Barristan Selmy 222
Van Gaal lives off his time with Ajax for me. He had some success with Bayern and Barca but he often leaves a disaster behind and has been sacked or forced to resign several times. As I was saying .

buster. 4,974
Saw the last 15 minutes of the Southampton defeat and United were clueless and devoid of creativity or real intent. May end up struggling to qualify for the CL. --------------------------------- @OliverKayTimes: FT: Man Utd 0 Southampton 1. #MUFC 37 pts from 21 games. Exactly same as under Moyes last season. Fewer goals scored. "Philosophy" unclear Add XXXM pounds spent. Looking back in this thread shows that LVG is fairly consistent and it's not just the old HT 0-0. A year on and it's another 0-1 defeat from Koeman's Southampton and the same 37 points but from 23 games. #CarCrash
Gribz 745
No idea how Man Utd haven't sacked him yet, its either pride or a big pay off. They should just give it to Giggs.
