andy steel 0
When did the 'government' take football out of schools? From what I can see schools football seems to be getting played http://www.scottishfa.co.uk/ssfa/football.cfm?page=1392 It's the clubs and the SFA who are responsible for the pitiful state of football in this country, no one else. Money and opportunity squandered again and again. Rangers are as culpable as anyone, more than many indeed. It was the teaching staff who took football out the schools with a work-to-rule in the early to mid 80's which saw school teams collapse to virtually nothing. If there's a comeback it's from the dead. We weren't that much worse than the Germans yesterday, once our team got over their inferiority complex. We weren't great but neither was Jerry, in all honesty.

Whilst a lot of school teams did cease many didn't. My secondary school did but the local RC school didn't, they produced four boys my age that went on and played senior and we didn't produce any and I'd say those two factors are connected. I notice the successor of my alma mater won the schools trophy recently, so indeed the resurrection is complete. PS I wonder if there is meltdown on German football messageboards this morning after losing to Scotland! The shame of it.
