Kris Boyd in line for a sensational return to Rangers

22 June 2014 12.05pm.

It can be revealed the 30-year-old striker has opened negotiations with the Ibrox hierarchy in the past 24 hours.

Light Blues boss Ally McCoist, who had been cool on the deal, has decided to pursue the option of signing the SPL’s all-time leading goalscorer after giving it serious consideration with his backroom staff.

Boyd has other options to look at, mainly from Aberdeen, Dundee United or re-signing with current club Kilmarnock.

However, it’s understood that the lure of returning to Rangers and helping the club back to the top flight appeals greatly to the hit-man.

The Rangers fans are also delighted at the prospect of Boyd wearing their jersey next season.

He will sit down with his family and representative in the next 48 hours and discuss in detail all the options open to him.

But Rangers appear to be in the driving seat, and talks over terms will continue today and tomorrow.

Sayest the Sunday Post

We shall see.

boyd is worth a go if he's not to expensive and given our competition in signing him he shouldn't be. i would say that going into the spl next year he will more or less need to be our worst player if we are to catch celtc.

Maybe you just put that line about us needing to spend big in years and/or month to come into your signature. It will spare you repeating it time and again. ;)

This has all the hall marks of masking an offer that will never be accepted and then the old ,"but we made him an offer " line will be trotted out , at the moment Dun Utd have offered way more than Aberdeen , and cant see Killie keeping him

will be hard to spin an offer that doesn't beat dundee utd positively.

but they got many people believing the lie about us offering telfer more than utd so who knows.

With the state of our Club's finances it wouldn't really come as a surprise if Dundee Utd offered Boyd more money than us, but you never know. The board might decide that it's prudent to push the boat out a little and sign Boyd to get some more fans renewing their season tickets.

I'm not sure whether there are any immediate monetary issues. Might well be that the board has actually convinced the institutional investors about taking up parts of that 43m shares option, that the Puma and/or 32Red deal kicks in and the like. We can all speculate on that we don't have the money to do this, yet there are only signs to the contrary from the club though, i.e. signing players and looking for a DoF. I'm somewhat hesitant to solely rolling out the spin-doctor carpet though.
