I'm fairly happy . It would be great to have a brand new exciting talent to get behind but I don't think we have the cash or the scouting prowess at the moment. So seeing Boyd back and doing his thing will do fir now. He's a class act at this level.

Kris of life breathes new hope into Rangers bid for Boyd

KRIS BOYD is closing in on a return to Rangers as the League One champs get set to beat Aberdeen and Dundee United to the striker's signature.

The 30-year-old quit Ibrox four years ago but is now poised to sign on once again and link up with former forward partner Kenny Miller.

Boyd has also received an offer from Kilmarnock, who he scored 22 goals for last term, and French side Nimes, but Ibrox is his preferred destination.

And it is Gers gaffer Ally McCoist who looks set to win the race to secure the prolific marksman as the former fans' favourite edges closer to a deal that will see him spearhead the Light Blues' bid for the Championship title.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes said: "I think if Rangers make Kris Boyd an offer then financially it would beat our offer.

"If it isn't Kris Boyd, then we move on. If Kris decides he wants to come to Aberdeen, then we will do a deal, but we can't stand about waiting for that to happen."

Kris Boyd decides to rejoin Rangers

KRIS BOYD has agreed to return to Rangers.

The 30-year-old out-of-contract Kilmarnock star, who scored more than 100 goals in his first spell with the Light Blues, will team up again with Kenny Miller, who has returned for his third spell with the Govan giants. Rangers were able to blow financial offers from Premiership outfits Aberdeen, Dundee United and Kilmarnock to land Boyd.

The Scottish international’s move was sealed when he met manager Ally McCoist, after the Ibrox boss flew in from his holiday yesterday afternoon.

McCoist left under-fire chief executive Graham Wallace to sort out the financial side of things after the player agreed to join Rangers.

Boyd had been offered a two-year deal by the Championship new boys but told McCoist he was even prepared to take a year to return to his boyhood heroes.

McCoist is confident that with Boyd, Miller, Jon Daly and Nicky Clark, he has more than enough firepower to book a top-flight return and see off the Championship challenge of Hibs and Hearts.

Boyd’s decision leaves Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes frustrated – although it was always a long shot that the striker would ever go to the Granite City.

McInnes said: “I was aware of Rangers’ interest last week, and I think if Rangers make Kris Boyd an offer then financially it would beat our one.

“We did declare an interest in him and we spoke to him. But we still have other options to look at as well.”

Rangers have also signed Darren McGregor from St Mirren and are still keen on Scotland cap Don Cowie who is out of contract at Cardiff City next week.

He has been offered a new two-year deal but is also wanted by Cardiff’s English Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers.
