Webster Out For 3-4 Weeks...

Recommended Posts

Under one of the rules it goes something like this "He can't move to another scottish club however he could move to england and then if he wanted he could move to a scottish club".

Something along those lines.

He isn't moving permanently to another Scottish club though - he is on loan. The player registration is what I was questioning - he signed permanently for Wigan so Hearts surely cannot be holding his registration.

The rule you state is correct but I don't think it is specifically between teams from the same league eg, Sebo came from Vienna but until the summer can only go back to Vienna and no-one else on a permanent basis.

I don't think a loan is affected the same way, but could be wrong.

Either way, the registration being the reason for him not being able to play for us makes no sense to me.

Rangers have been banned from fielding new signing Andy Webster.

The Scotland defender, who joined on a loan deal from Wigan but presently out injured, has had his case referred to world football's governing body, Fifa.

Wigan signed Webster after exploiting a new Fifa ruling to free himself from his contract, but he remains registered with Hearts at the Scottish FA.

Fifa has yet to rule on a fee for his transfer to Wigan and also must now decide if he can play for Rangers.

The SFA told BBC Sport: "The whole issue is now with Fifa. They will decide what happens next."

Hearts had contested Webster's right to move to Wigan and cut short his four-year contract by a year.

Fifa allowed him to sign for Wigan pending a ruling on a compensation fee.

But Webster has failed to command a regular first-team place with the Premiership club, leading to his six-month loan to Rangers.

Webster was injured in his first training session with Rangers last week and will be out of action for about six weeks.

As soon as we signed him some of the guys at work were saying that he couldn't play for us. Apparently because the compensation still has to be worked out and the clause meant he couldn't play for another Scottish club, Hearts held on to his registration.

I'm sure we've checked out the legal side of it, but from what I've heard, Hearts still hold his registration. Lots of Jambos I know seem pretty sure about this.

Seems this is now how it is being reported - the fact the tribunal hasn't set the fee would mean Hearts WOULD retain his registration until they get what they are due for him.

However, Webster made use of FIFA regulation to leave Hearts, he is now being prevented from playing again because of FIFA regulation - so watch just how fast they now act on this - otherwise their whole legislature loses credibility.
